Learn from your mistakes.
Adapt quickly.
Champion your team’s creativity.
Innovation thrives on resilience.
Why Most Advanced Yet Acceptable Products win: MAYA dictates that the ideal design sits between solutions that are completely novel and entirely familiar. Be too novel and customers will tune you out. Be too familiar and customers will look right past you.

I envisioned, manifested, and delivered working software products in enterprise organizations.

Spent Monday afternoon at the mechanic, and came across the Iron Laws of Quality™.
The project management triangle (i.e. triple constraint, iron triangle, or project triangle) is a model of the constraints for projects.
It has been used since at least the 1950s.
These are the iron laws under which consultants, product managers, and founders operate and others desperately wish didn’t exist.

They challenge assumptions and force #ProductManagement to confront the limitations of their thinking and their solutions.
This often leads to creative problem-solving and innovative product enhancements.

If you’re in #ProductManagement, have a Peloton, or are in product and use a Peloton, check out this podcast episode.
It was an interesting discussion.
What can I say, I have a face for podcasting.
For me product management, fighting for social justice, and mutual aid are all fundamentally the same practice, at least when done right.
All three are a constant "no" in the face of the tyranny of low expectations.
All three are a refusal to settle for the voices who insist we must just put up with the obviously inadequate and obviously changeable world as it is.
All three seek to bring relief to those most in need even in the smallest of ways, while never forgetting the much larger end goals of full relief.
All three are a discipline of hope.
This question could be written about any of the three:
"sure we could improve things slightly but what if we just counted on institutional inertia and the individual human capacity to adapt to misery such that all hopeful possibilities died unimagined and the hearts of our young hardened into something resembling the stones of peaches" - Pat Blanchfield

In companies, this kind of three-dimensional chess and "optimization mindset" becomes the norm, so balls are always dropping. When balls are always dropping, there's a culture of not catching. Instead, leadership rewards teams for throwing new balls into the air and even more impressive attempts at juggling.
@jalefkowit
My questions:
Did #ProductManagement leadership staff a “red-team” before go-live?
Does leadership know what “prompt injection” means”

There is a contradiction at the heart of lowercase-a #agile - it wants to simultaneously deliver value (be right) and learn (be wrong). As a result of trying to do both, it often succeeds at neither.
The remedy is to untangle discovery from delivery - with #UX methods that are more effective at managing rapid feedback loops.

@lightweight @nhan Yes. monopolies were part of it — I was an expert advisor once to a government anti-competition investigation against Microsoft — but decades ago, the company was also brilliant at #productManagement, something many coders not only undervalue, don't even realise exists ("unknown unknown"). They just wonder why they fail when their code is so good. 🤔
The most practical way to measure quality is to have experts look at the thing. Ideally as many experts as possible. Ideally the experts are truly experts. If 100 experts can’t find any problems, the thing is probably perfect.

From a #ProductManagement perspective, I’ve described sense-making as the key skill for the function to derive insights from the market, package into a feature, and then deliver a product.
Product managers in software and digital technology are information operations professionals.

@DAIR @dylan This sounds similar to #productmanagement conversations.
There are 2 major players in the front end analytics space: one collects everything (they legally can) by default and the other requires you to specify what you want to collect. Use case and usability aside, I feel that few organizations are equipped to have these conversations on intention.
"What should we collect and why?" is not an easy conversation, but if you have it, you're more likely to use the data.

In a call with a PM I mentor, I realised a big reason I'm so much less anxious now than a few years ago: being realistic with myself about priorities.
Set aside those low-priority things on the to-do list that haunt you as they spill over from week to week. There's no need to feel guilty for dropping things from your way-too-full plate because you've been focusing on what's important.

I have a personal knowledge mastery dream: Mr. Rogers meets VisualCapitalist meets Tableau meets Fortnite meets YouTube meets Reading Rainbow meets the StarTrek universal translator.
Systems thinkers: remove the words "simply" and "just" from your vocabulary.
Anyone on the team can tell you about the problems they face. There's no value-add in throwing it back at them with "why don't you simply do things well, instead of poorly?"
If the change you're thinking of was easy to make, it would have already been made! Coming up with a 100% original idea no one's had before is very unlikely.

"We need designs for this feature" is understood as a business need, but why is "ok so we'll need to interview 15 users" often framed as a #uxDesign need?
Designers aren't asking to talk to users because they're lonely. They're asking to talk to users to get the data they need to design *the features the business wants.*
#UserResearch is a business need. When business argues against doing it, it argues against achieving its own objectives.
While we’re trying to answer the questions above, we need to negotiate what’s possible from all perspectives. Our main job, as product managers, is to gather all the information and make or help others make the best decisions to end up with a product that customers love and that works for the business.
That’s needs a lot of communication and critical thinking skills. Nobody said #ProductManagement is easy 😅
#ProductManagement is a constant negotiation. There are always constraints, you can never have everything, so you need to negotiate what’s possible and make trade-off decisions along the way. Is our idea technically feasible? If not, what is? Is the user experience simple enough, how much business complexity can show through? Are we solving for a desired business outcome even though we’re not exactly building what a stakeholder requested?
We should normalise design/product artefacts that it takes more than one person or discipline to complete. Create collaboration inherently in the format - in the structures - of what we produce.
Designing for ADHD makes your product better for everyone: If you can get users who struggle with focus to onboard and sustain interest in your product, just think what you can do for everyone else.
https://uxdesign.cc/building-for-adhd-will-make-your-product-better-for-everyone-795eb5bc9afa
Prototyping is the catalyst for product and engineering to truly become one team, and move beyond project handoff. Eliminating handoff and iterating together is more efficient, enjoyable, and user focused… and much less risky.
https://nohandoff.org/no-handoff-between-product-and-engineering/
I know that #ProductManagement is largely about learning to say "no", but oh the joy when you get to say "yes" to a meaningful, smart request!
