I recently got asked what an engineer could do to understand our users’ problems and the domain they’re operating in better. The answer to my “They can join me visiting and talking to them from time to time” was “Well, you don’t want the engineers to waste their time with the users” and I still can’t believe this. No second spent with users is wasted. No documentation in the world will ever replace or even get close to a real conversation. The PM is not the proxy between the engineers and the users. Just no. #productmanagent #ProductMgmt

Chats over the long weekend with good friends reminded me to try not to slip back into classic #impostersyndrome thinking. Don't sell yourself short, learnings are equally if not more valuable than other outcomes, and women tend to suffer more of this than men do - not always of course, but certainly a big chunk.

Something I'm noticing as a new product manager is the cost of 3rd party software.
I know, I know, relatively speaking it's not much.
But from where I'm coming from - the world of "I'll just hack it together with some smart Google and Microsoft magic and a bit of Wizard-of-Ozzing" - it's adding up... and it's taking a while to calm my "do everything super cheap" farm.
Gotta keep reminding myself: spending money here saves time (which is also money) there. My time is worth more than the Wizard of Oz can give me!
