A person who does not value personal honesty & spends a considerable amount of their time plotting ways to discredit the scientific evidence (that doesn't align with their agendas) is a narcissist (narc)
If a narc did see a #psychologist (e.g., due to criminal behaviour), they will try to manipulate the psychologist as they believe they're far more intelligent.
Some people plot terrible things & only feel sorry (for themselves) after they're found out.

"Eliza" is a mock therapist that has been around since at least the 1960s. It has fooled people. It is mechanical processing - not intelligence.
ChatGPT is only innovative in the amount of work it does, and mechanically modifying its behavior based on retained data and past results, it is not intelligence. It is clockwork.

I did some more research on the subject of #narcissism, and I managed to find this video by Dr. #Ramani #Durvasula, a #licensed #clinical #psychologist in Los Angeles, CA, #professor #emerita of #psychology at California State University, and the founder of LUNA Education, Training, and Consulting. She studies narcissism and #NPD for a living, and what she says about narcissism reflects all that I've been saying tonight. Here she is, discussing whether it's OK to "#diagnose" someone with the "illness" of narcissism. (Hint: It's not, and that's not what's happening anyway.)
"...let's take on the biggest myth of all: Narcissism is an illness, or it's a diagnosis. Now this is a common one, and in fact, it is often used to #shame survivors of narcissistic #abuse."
Which entirely explains why I've felt silenced by the folks who keep telling me that I "shouldn't use the term" for various reasons including "you'll stigmatize non-abusive narcissists" or "you can't diagnose people who aren't your patients."
She goes onto use several examples such as the very things I've been told tonight: "You can't say that this person's narcissistic! You're not a doctor!"
She concludes: "The word, the term, the concept of narcissism is not diagnostic. It is descriptive."
With all this concern for narcissists, it's surprising to see so little concern for the silencing of #victims and #survivors or narcissistic abuse. But when you consider that pet issues like this become hyped to the point that individuals stop being reasonable and stop listening to others, it makes sense why people who are hyperfocused on protecting narcissists become so willing to throw their victims and survivors under the bus.
Listen to Dr. Ramani speak at length about this common misunderstanding about narcissism, which creates an environment where victims and survivors of abuse are silenced or shamed in her video titled: "Narcissism is an Illness: Fact or Fiction?" She talks a lot about narcissism, so if the subject interests you, she has a lot to say about it (and has written several books on the subject matter).

When you train to become a therapist, you're taught a lot about "burnout" and "self-care" and "compassion fatigue."
But all the academic exercises don't really prepare you for the sheer level of jadedness and cynicism and pure disdain you develop hearing stories of the worst parts of U.S. society.
And the borderline pathological ability to compartmentalize needed to survive the profession.
Any ideological crank can (legally) call themselves a #psychologist or #counsellor in #Ireland, and many do. CORU will eventually regulate the title.
Until then, check for Psychological Society of Ireland (PSI) or Irish Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (IACP) membership. Full membership, not student, registration. Both organisations have position statements condemning #ConversionTherapy

@SwiftOnSecurity #backstory I always just liked #computers and enjoy #helping people. Originally in #highschool I thought I'd like to be a #psychologist or something of the sorts. But the job security and money seemed more appealing than than saving actual lives unfortunately.
I had an interview with Amazon shortly before graduating #undergrad, and made it all the way to final round where they flew me out, paid for my meals, the whole thing. I didn't get it and this crushed me for a minute.
Even though I got my #bachelors degree right after high school in #cybersecurity, I started off in support because I just couldn't land my first cyber job directly. It was very disheartening.
I got promoted from my first job to a network #analysts (small/medium company but 16 sites). I earned my networking grit from this by designing a whole network for a new location from the ground up. Including the rack, phone systems, WAP's, #firewall, #network segmentation. I got tired of running actual cables however so I switch to their systems role and finished my time at that company after 1.5 years.
Following that I've had a couple jobs in the #finance industry (doing cyber). My primary focus has been PKI but I honestly hate it and I've been in it for almost 3 years.
Looking forward, I wanna do something more exciting and more challenging again. PKI isn't exciting enough for my #ADHD brain, too repetitive. I can't figure out where in security I want to move to next but I know it's not this.
