Ever noticed how dull #linux #audio sounds over #stereo #headphones?
Owning a Beyer DT990 Pro and being fond of #games and #movies I came upon these articles to configure #pulseaudio to deliver a punch:
- HRTF virtual 3D surround
-- https://frankbaier.medium.com/linux-how-to-enable-hrtf-virtual-3d-surround-sound-with-pulseaudio-5b74a6493a66
- Binaural Headphones
-- https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/PulseAudio/Examples#Binaural_Headphones
Especially adding the Binaural config made sound come alive!

Still fighting with audio issues on #Debian Bookworm / #Linux and my #Bluetooth headset. Managed to get the device to connect via blueman-manager in the blueman package, but no audio is being sent.
I think I may try swapping #Pipewire back to #PulseAudio to see if that works better if this round of updates don't fix the issue.

I installed EasyEffects on Fedora today, added several effects and tweaked them a bit just based on my tastes while listening to streaming music through Firefox.
I wish I'd done this sooner. My music already sounds better.

Mastodon Linux users, I need your help!!
I've been looking around for a new #Linux #distro to #distrohop (even though I swore to never distrohop again :P), but I can't find one that fits my needs:
- Built on #Debian Linux latest
- Supports more #apt providers
- Does not use #systemd, #pulseaudio & #x11
- Does use #PipeWire and #Wayland
- Has a big userbase and is maintained by a group of people, not an individual
I'd go for MX, but it breaks #3
I'm ok with X11 but I'd like it toggleable

I use to have issues with my #linux where audio is not as clear as #windows when you raise the voice over 100%.
But when I switched to #OpneSUSE the issue was not there. It seems like OpenSUSE comes pre-installed with #PulseAudio which makes the output of voice very clear. Idk why other distributions do not do the same thing.

The upgrade to #bookworm was fairly painless (PEBKAC: accidentally purged too many packages while cleaning up backports - thankfully I had a local cache of dpkgs to restore networking). I was able to switch from #pulseaudio to #pipewire and use distro versions of some #sway binaries. I now even have a decent screenshot workflow ;-)
I wonder if all the issues people have been having with #Audio on #Linux lately are because of #PulseAudio or #PipeWire...
I remember having lots of issues when using #PulseAudio, but somehow they all magically went away when I switched to #PipeWire...
Man, it'd be nice if I could install qutebrowser on #BSD without also installing #PulseAudio 🤦🏻
TIL: Solange Pavucontrol offen ist, vermeidet #PulseAudio trotz gesetzter Einstellung kein Resampling. 🤡

@Olivierb bonjour, plusieurs possibilités :
Oh no what if it was Pipewire all along? Replaced Pipewire with Pulseaudio in my Fedora WSL, and locking and unlocking the computer seems to no longer mess with Emacs audio. *sigh*
Standard #Ubuntu #Gnome with #PulseAudio seems to be unable to disable A SINGLE SPECIFIC SOUND SINK
So anytime I lock my screen, those "speakers" (tiny things in one random of both external displays) become default sink again.
even though there's headphones connected.
YAY!
listening via headphones, stop-playback, lock-screen, unlock-screen, resume-playback -> sound via speakers
#Audio unter #Linux, die #Leidenschafft seit vielen Jahren. Gerade schafft mir Leiden, dass diverse #Sampleratekonverter in meiner Signalkette auffallend schlecht klingen.
Silly PulseAudio! Why do you think my cans have a mic attached? When I unplugged the cans, the internal mic worked. I plug them back in, and the internal mic still works. #Trisquel #GNU #Linux #ComputerPlay #PulseAudio
I had problems with sound on my #ArchLinux system for a very long time. Sounds like a little xrun (a crack or interuption) now and then, with no visible reason. It has started on #pulseaudio and I was able to fix it, but later this fix stopped working. As the time passed and I moved to #pipewire, the problem persisted.
Sooo, yesterday I reinstalled arch, decided to install pulseaudio instead of pipewire and now everything is good for the whole day.
This is not a solution though, I like pipewire.
AAAAAAARGH!
FUCKING PulseAudio.
I'm a goddamned Linux Adept and this is a nightmare unfucking this shit for @juliewebgirl on her laptop.
And fuck Chrome, while I'm at it.
But really? Fuck Lennart Poettering, in the kidneys, with a cinderblock.

@paul #MXLinux v21 #KDE. I had to do some significant work to get audio figured out when I first installed the distro. #Pulseaudio does not play well with others and it took some digging to find that timidity and fluidsynth and another audio server app were loaded before pulseaudio, which killed sound on the Default sink. GAH! This time I could see in dmesg that sound hardware was found, drivers were loaded, &pulseaudio was running. $ aplay -D default <wavfile> produced no sound. BUT $aplay -D pulse <wavfile> DID and the instant I ran that command, sound began working on the default sink. But, KDE SystemSettings still shows no sound hardward or sound options. Very strange.
Having crappy headphones, Easy Effects is my best friend. I have to tweak it carefully, or the sound will clip like crazy and become worse than without it. I can also use the limiter filter to prevent the clipping, though
Are you using #PipeWire or still #PulseAudio?
I switched my sound output to my DAC from USB to SPDIF and it was not working. After exhausting the always excellent #archlinux wiki for ideas, I realized I had set out to, but not actually switched my DAC input to optical. Sigh.
But the sound was choppy, so there was more archwiki reading and #pulseaudio fiddling, until nothing worked anymore.
Old wisdom prompted me to reboot. Everything was fixed.
I have learned precisely nothing out of this, but at least I can enjoy music again.
#Pulseaudio has #sndio support as well. Sadly it's not compiled in on #ubuntu.
God damn it why is there no "latency offset" field for any of my mic inputs in #PulseAudio volume control? 😩
#qutebrowser requres #pulseaudio? On #OpenBSD? doas pkg_delete with haste and impunity. No #Lennart code on *this* boxy box, thank you.
@frox @pavot My suspend is working fine now. It was only about 1 week that it wouldn't wake up without a reboot. What keeps me from using the #PinePhonePro as my only phone is the echo on the other end of the line. I also have a real hard time with #PulseAudio. I tried switching to #PipeWire but I was unfamiliar and didn't learn much.

Partly through my reinstall of #popos and so far going smoothly…
Funny that when I installed a new NvME drive so I could switch to a faster root drive (from SSD) and restarted Pop (20.04), #pulseaudio wouldn’t start. Went through half a day of troubleshooting with no luck and since I was going to upgrade / reinstall to 22.04 anyway, I decided to just reinstall (after making sure I had good backups).
This is a #dualboot system and sound still worked in Windows, so it wasn’t hardware related…
@xerz #EasyEffects works so much better than everything I've tried before when I was still using #PulseAudio
For that alone I'm very happy that I made the switch to #PipeWire 🎙️🎧
Seems I fixed my #Pulseaudio #OBS #Manjaro issues with this setting:
```diff
/etc/pulse/daemon.conf
- default-sample-rate = 44100
+ default-sample-rate = 48000
```

So, the recent #Manjaro (#ArchLinux) update messed with my #Pulseaudio and #OBS a bit. Not completely, probably fixable, but I wonder if I should use the opportunity to switch to #pipewire now. I'm on X (no Wayland), play Steam/Proton games, have a USB audio interface and have a couple of virtual sinks in PA. How realistic is a stable setup like this in PW?

@djnrrd I'm not on #ubuntu, but for me it was practically a drop-in replacement for #pulseaudio .
However, I'm not a very demanding user - I just tunnel all audio from my laptop to a PA server running on my #raspberry with a #hifiberry .
Are there any Ubuntu specific guides you can follow? What are you worried about?
PipeWire braucht kein PulseAudio
Wie funktioniert die Audio-Verarbeitung bei GNU/Linux-Systemen? Der Versuch einer einfachen Erklärung.
#novembeat, day 02. Had a lot of fun with this one.
Just finished to upgrade a system to #Kubuntu #Kinetic. It went smooth. This time, bye bye #PulseAudio. Hello #pipewire
Hey #linux nerds:
What's up with #PipeWire replacing #Pulseaudio? Is this win? Is this fail? Is this indifference?

@dredmorbius @theruran And before inflicting #systemd on us, he set loose the #pulseaudio plague upon the free software world. He should be punished with eternal damnatio memoriae for these hienious crimes.
I'm thinking that installing #Pipewire on Arch Linux was a wasted effort as #PulseAudio worked fine for me, and Pipewire introduced a bunch of new compatibility problems. The KDE startup sound also doesn't play anymore.
I'm trying to record computer audio with Audacity.
