I just did a comparison with the ADS1115 and the ADC on the Pi Pico. No comparison. The ADS1115 produces repeatable figures. Nothing was connected to any of the ADC lines. The built-in ADC on the Pi Pico looks to be somewhat of a joke or maybe a misnamed random number generator.

Nutzt irgendwer von Euch #Kodi und auf welcher Hardware habt Ihr es laufen? Bisher habe ich Kodi auf einem #Raspberry laufen gehabt, leider sind mir schon zwei abgeraucht (nicht übertaktet und Kühlung war auch ok). Deshalb bin ich am überlegen, ob ich mir so einen Mini-PC zulegen soll. Es soll auch nur Kodi darauf laufen und die Soundausgabe darf auch gerne gut sein.
This looks promising. Missing is male to female jumper cables. There's an SD reader, VGA camera module and a Pi Pico. The goal will be to get both working since they both use SPI. I just hope SPI works as the ADC on the Pico clearly does not.

I just migrated my #HomeAssistant from a #Raspberry Pi to a Thin Client server (5 watt idle) running #Promox VE virtualization software. The goal was to have a more solid platform, with easy backup and lower energy usage (in total).
The whole installation process was a breeze and restoring the HA backup did go well the first time.
Next up: virtualization of #PiHole

I wanted to setup a #Kubernetes cluster at home and was doing some hardware research. Sadly, #Raspberry Pi 4 are so expensive in comparison that I bought a brandnew NUC-like computer. It comes with a way faster CPU, a SSD and is also upgradable. Raspberry Pi still has its use cases but I am sad that it's not fulfilling my needs for this project. :(

Das neue Gehirn ist an den Creality Ender 3 S1 Pro angedockt.
Es hat wirklich alles sehr gut funktioniert. Einzig die printer.cfg hätte ich gleich von der Originalseite nehmen sollen. Das Beispiel aus einem Blog war etwas krude.
Aber nun funktioniert alles.

I was in Books A Million a few weeks ago. I wanted to see if there were any Arduino or RaspBerry Pi magazines. It seemed that the magazine wall had shrunk from 40 feet of magazines to about 15 feet and fewer shelves. There were no Raspberry Pi, Arduino or any other similar magazines.
My thought is that without shelf space, the public will not see magazines. If they can't see them, they won't buy them. It becomes a vicious circle.
I have a subscription that I was given to one magazine. I looked a couple of times but it's such an irritation looking at PDFs or online articles that I gave up. They're just not fun to view on a laptop or a phone or a 7" tablet.
I can confidently predict that pretty well all magazines that went digital will go out of production within a short amount of time.

I wanted a flexible door sensor with a long battery run time that works with the hardware I already have. I settled on the Xiaomi Mijia MCCGQ02HL Window/Door Sensor 2 which I got used for 6€ per device. It can run on a single battery for over a year by broadcasting the data as a Bluetooth beacon. No change, no transmission, no energy consumption.
I use a #Raspberry Pi Zero (thx @b30) to capture the BLE beacons and send them to a MQTT server (mosquitto) to which my Home Assistant instance is subscribed to.
More details:
1. Get hold of a MCCGQ02HL sensor.
2. Add the sensor to the Mi Home app with your smartphone.
3. Extract the encryption keys. I used https://github.com/PiotrMachowski/Xiaomi-cloud-tokens-extractor (other options are listed here: https://custom-components.github.io/ble_monitor/faq#encryption-keys)
4. Write a python script to capture and process the BLE advertisements. I adapted the example script from the bleparser package (https://github.com/Ernst79/bleparser) and added home assistant discovery functionality. It's a mess, but if you want something to start off from: https://gist.github.com/lucahammer/24a60aadb16a53c200f2b9174b441fef. Add the MAC addresses to the sensors list and the BLE keys to the aeskeys dictionary ('MAC:ADDRESS':'KEY'). I don't know why it needs to be in bytes instead of strings. Add the MQTT server IP, port, user and password.
5. Put the script on a device with Bluetooth capabilities.
6. Install dependencies (aiobs, BleParser, mqtt).
7. Run the script. I have to run it as root. If you know how to fix that, let me know.
8. If your home assistant instance is already subscribed to your MQTT server, the devices should show up automatically.
9. ???
If your home assistant host supports Bluetooth and is within reach of the sensors, you can ignore all steps and use the BLE Monitor component (https://github.com/custom-components/ble_monitor) instead. #HomeAssistant #Xiaomi #Sensor #HomeAutomation #Python #MQTT

Ein älterer, jahrelang als ADS-B Receiver (im Outdoorgehäuse in Sonnenlage für http://adsb.chaos-consulting.de) gelaufener Raspi2 machte nur noch wenig. Zudem zwei USB-Ports zerbröselt.
Es wollte nicht mehr booten, nur grüne LED und immerhin noch schwarzes HDMI, also EIDI lief damit noch. Kaputtes USB-A raus, PCB in Flussmittel gebadet und gefönt. Läuft wieder. Nur leider unklar, was es wohl gewesen ist. Vielleicht hätte ich doch vorher nach den Rails und Clocks messen sollen.

Try that with a #BananaPiZeroM2 that even people who do Computers for a living and teach in them can't even get the few systems that support it to run on anything but 720p60.
Petit aparté : j’ai essayé pendant plusieurs mois d’héberger ma propre instance Nextcloud sur un #Raspberry Pi 4, mais c’est franchement fatigant. Je ne suis pas le dernier des neuneus et même moi j’ai réussi à mettre tout mon serveur à terre après une bête mise à jour.
On peut gloser des heures sur « célafotaki » entre Nextcloud/Raspberry/Ma propre incompétence, n’empêche que l’autohébergement, ça reste une affaire d’acharné·e pour le moment.

Awhile back I made a strong #liqueur by soaking about 1.5 cups of frozen #raspberry pieces in a similar amount of cheap #vodka with perhaps 1/2c of granulated cane #sugar, all in a canning jar in my #liquor cabinet.
On this super-hot afternoon I poured two ounces of the lovely red raspberry liqueur into a #highball glass full of #IceCubes and chased it with an ounce or so of #cheap American #whiskey. Topped off the glass with #SparklingWater for an utterly delightful strong #summer #cocktail.

dd if=/dev/sde of=/dev/sdd bs=4M status=progress
on /dev/sde és la microSD i /dev/sdd és el disc dur SSD extern. Ja porta copiats 35 dels 128GB de la microSD.
Toca muntar el #hub #USB per a poder connectar-hi un disc dur #SSD extern per la #Raspberry.

Restic ist eine gute und schnelle Alternative zu Borg. Grund genug, sich das einmal genauer anzusehen.
@Wintermute_BBS Yes still running #RISCOS on it. Works great so far. I run it on a #Raspberry Pi 3b+. It feels much faster than any Linux based desktop a tried.
I am still learning out how some things work, because it is very different to all systems I am known to.
I use #OmniClient to integrate it with my SMB network, so I can transfer files easily. The SMB server is #SAMBA based.

Should I reboot my little cache server raspberry pi that has a current uptime of 1030 days?
I just ran an apt upgrade on my raspberry pi that's serving as a Unity cache server for all my machines at home. It's been a while so there were a lot of core service updates. This is its current uptime. Should I reboot it?
Thought I'd share some of the fruit growing / ripening in our garden at the moment. This is:
* Raspberry 'Ivory' - one of the yellow varieties
* Feijoa (unknown variety) - Sorry, the plant was here when we moved in!
* Fig 'Vlassoff' - the second batch for the year. These may not ripen in time before Winter
* Apple 'Blush Babe'

I'm thinking about getting 2-3 of these and using them with #RaspberryPIZeroW machines in the #van as a dashboard with more functionality than a standard dashboard can offer. I really love how circular these things are and that they are 2.1" touchscreen LCDs!

Fishing tackle boxes are way cheaper than craft boxes. Great way to store resistors, raspberry pi boards and add-on boards etc. Much easier to see what's there and access it than an ammunition box. Less liable to critters and more durable than a cardboard box.

Just created a #PowerShell script to deploy a #dotnet web service to a #raspberry and wanted to share some tiny tricks I'm using with this kind of tasks:
When calling a CLI like SSH from a script or PS module I'm wrapping it in a tiny function which pipes the invocation syntax to the 'debug'-stream.
If I call the cmdlet with '-Debug' I'm seeing a 'dump' of call with its parameters. Also it saves the exit code for later inspection.

With the history of ex-law enforcers working at tech companies, I don't think my next #SBC will be a Raspberry. In one way this reminds me of an attempt to circumvent a #canary ban.

PS: Last time, I had to stop the program, since for some reason, it consumed too much CPU of the poor old pi. Perhaps #TorProject fixed some bugs, since it now appears to run smoother.
In the last three hours, I got 80-120 connections each, which transferred only < 100 MB each. For people with faster connections, this might of course be more. With the browser plugin, I got less connections.

You can also compile the program on another computer, even if it has a different architecture. For example, in the toot I explain how to install the Snowflake standalone proxy e.g. on a Raspberry Pi. I compiled the program on my Linux computed and copied it to the Raspberry pi.
1-2. As in the above toot.
3. Go to the right directory and compile:
$ cd snowflake/proxy/
$ GOARCH=arm GOOS=linux go build
This will create the executable file `./proxy`, cross-compiled for the raspberry.
4. Copy the program to a directory on your raspberry, e.g:
$ scp ./proxy pi@raspberrypi:/home/pi/
5. SSH into your pi and execute the program using `nohup`:
$ ssh pi@raspberrypi
$ nohup ./proxy &
6. Done! Remember that the program makes *hourly* progress outputs, which you can check using:
$ tail -f nohup.out
You can now log out of the SSH session, while helping people circumvent #censorship.
