@HistoPol This is a good article to read to understand why renaming street/place names is an important component of decolonization. It refers to US examples but it's same decolonization efforts that First Nations communities are working on in Canada.

Front entrance to Umista Cultural Centre. Two welcome totems flank both sides of walkway to doors. Native art panels are placed on both sides of the entrance doors. The building sign is on the far left.
An educational plaque, about the site. It was former site of St. Michael's residential school. In February 2015 was demolished. Over 700 people - survivors, families & supporters - stood in the spot where plaque is now, taking part in emotional healing ceremonies as the building was taken apart.

Been playing Reclamation by Zebulah et al for the past forty-five minutes nonstop. I'm at the point where I can click away a bit to let time pass, then come back to the screen and see what nature has done, and if I can build that arcology yet.

Too High & Too Steep – Reshaping Seattle’s Topography

As an engineering geologist that worked in Seattle / Puget Sound area for around a decade, I grabbed a copy of this when I saw it (along with the wonderful inscription from Louis to his Aunt and Uncle and the pencilled marginalia from the Aunt or Uncles as they read); the hardcover was 100% my choice for the read-feel and to ensure the maximum levels of maps and historic photos…

This is my reclamation art project. Using reclaimed concrete paving-slabs, ad collected shards from broken ceramics and coloured glass, I make moasics. When I have visitors, I invite them to create one, too.
My plan is to use them for an unusual patio under the grape arbour. This will look so stunning. But I'll need lots of these mosaic slabs, and making them takes time.

The entrances to the chicken byre are being put in but as of today winter weather has put a halt to the proceedings.

At some point I'd like to sit down and write up a collection of practical #solarpunk posts.
Things that can be done in the here and now, with little to no finances or resources.
A mix of #guerillagardening, #cooperatives, #hacking, #permaculture, #ethicalpractices, #recycling & #reclamation.
I love the stories and art produced, there's are some great discussion on the ideology and philosophy, but practical things tend to be spread out and not so coalesced.

Whether you've signed on for six months aboard the #ISS or have spent your life living in the #LA basin, there's never quite enough water to go around. But new #water #reclamation and #recycling technologies developed by #NASA for use in orbit are quickly trickling down to our terrestrial tubs and showers.

#Reclamation yards are a personal favourite. There's one nearby setup by a man who knows all to well how much building material is wasted through construction. Perfectly good material that would otherwise be sent to landfill, or old equipment working perfectly but would be junked.
Cast iron gates, 2 by 4's galore, old british phone boxes, statues, heaters, benches, windows, doors, it's a treasure trove.
And it's glorious just imagining what could be built from them. #Solarpunk

Today my darlings
see the good reasons for life
let them dwell in you
