The Missing Scientists - “Big City, Bright Lights” b/w “Discotheque X”
An early collaboration between indie pop pioneers Dan Treacy and Joe Foster from Television Personalities and the synth-pop visionary Daniel Miller, known for his work as The Normal and Silicon Teens (and also the head of Mute Records).
It’s not the scrappy jangle-pop + synthesizers and drum machines you might expect from this trio. Instead, both sides draw significant inspiration from reggae.
The A-side is, in fact, a cover of "Big City", a rocksteady song from 1972 by Dandy Livingstone. Missing Scientists modernize the song without being cheesy.
"Discotheque X", features guitar work that skanks along with the riding rhythm laid down by the bass and hi-hat heavy drums. Synthesizer is used more for texture.

My introduction to this British reggae band is this album of all cover songs 🤷♂️
The band pays tribute to the reggae songs they loved growing up, specifically between 1969 and 1972, during the band members' early exposure to reggae at weekend-long parties in the ethnic neighborhood of Balsall Heath, in their hometown of Birmingham, UK.
I’d hear “Red Red Wine” from this album on KROQ at the time, so it was already popular by the time it took off in 1988, becoming a worldwide smash hit.

We're a group of dub activists that has been working hard for many years to get the roots/dub/sound system scene up and running in Denmark. Today is a cornerstone in our struggle with the release of a vinyl double LP with some of the central producers on the scene. It's a high quality vinyl with max 15 mins per side, so it's playable in the dance. And of cause all contributions include dub versions as well.

Bob Marley died on 11 May 1981 in Miami, Florida, aged 36, due to the spread of melanoma to his lungs and brain. His final words to his son Ziggy were: "On your way up, take me up. On your way down, don't let me down."
Marley was given a state funeral in Jamaica on 21 May 1981 that combined elements of Ethiopian Orthodoxy and Rastafari tradition.

I've always liked a variety of (often semi weird) music, usually of the rock variety. These are the artists I'm currently playing most of during the day on my personal Windows 7 machine that I basically use as a jukebox through the speakers on my desk as I work. I don't have any jazz or electronica on here, although I'm into that too.
