Have you ever heard of the Eastern Indigo snake?

I want to tell you about them and point you to the wiki page for a few reasons.

1. They are absolutely beautiful snakes & the longest in North America.

2. Because of habitat loss, the eastern indigo snake is listed as a federally threatened species in Georgia and Florida.

3. Just looking at the taxonomy synonyms reminds me that science is a messy process.

Look how many different genus names it was given, by scientists who were aware of previous classifications. You can tell this by the consistent species name.

Very cool news in my Inbox! The #Reptile Database compiles the taxonomic information for the worlds reptiles. The newest edition holds exactly 12,000 species, plus another 2,142 subspecies!

And they are adding synonyms!!! This is huge. One of my biggest struggles with my thesis is the #taxonomy Utilizing multiple datasets that dont all agree with one another takes a long time to validate.

Very happy to see this work!
