A couple of old #saws arrived, 2€ each, that I mostly bought for the saw bolts. But one of them is a rip saw in such good condition that I’m not going to sacrifice it. The plate on the other one has three broken teeth, however, and the handle is beat up, but it does provide three brass bolts in nice shape. That’s a win-win, I think.

Been scratching my head as to why the ribbon spools would not come off the Empire Aristocrat. They're not the originals but look the right type, Group 9. After checking it wasn't an obscure lever or clip, a decent grip and pull worked and the issue was degraded stickers on the bases that had glued the spool down over the years, probably 20+

This morning was the monthly volunteer gathering to continue to remove invasive honeysuckle, buckthorn, and box elder from one of the few remaining fens in Illinois. My youngest and I had a wonderful time. It was 35° F and sunny when we started, so basically near perfect for cutting and hauling brush and trees. Restorers were going to toss out this table (preexisting damage from putting boiling hot canned tomatoes on it), so I decided to restore it since we'd like to keep it. Flipped the top over (other side is all water stains and rings). Sanded, filled holes, and treated with boiled linseed oil. #furniture #restoration

I am very very proud of myself right now 😁
It's not the best job but it's mine. I have the urge to hang the frame on a wall 😂
For anyone interested, green is for the earth, blue is for the sky, and white for life and death (not that I intend to gamble my life whilst cycling). I'm going to draw a swallow to the head tube and possibly a wee tree by the bottom bracket. And then the top protective coat before the rebuild.

I made some more mistakes I'd like to fix but I have no more paint. So I'll either live with those, draw on them, or put a sticker on. It's all part of the learning process and as I said previously, it marks the bike as mine. All those mistakes made because of lack of patience are my eagerness to get to the finish line, 5o rebuilt the bike, and ride.

There's no going back now unless I want to strip the paint again and start over. Which I do not want to do.

Today I'm priming the frame and fork. I am hoping to paint too but that'll be dependent on the weather and dry times.
This is the very scary process. I have definitely been too eager once on this fork, but it's okay. It's mostly going well and I can always sand down the primer.

Last year this was all invasive bramble. My neighborhood decided to create a roadside wildflower patch here.
Bees, moths, and other pollinators are flitting around that weren't here before.
I know I'm sharing this project a lot. But of all the things I'm trying to do, all the things I'm trying to do and only making marginal progress, it's nice see a few flowers that I KNOW wouldn't have been planted.
