Article: A new map shows how climate change threatens your neighborhood
Referring to the condition as “prompt injection” is still causing a lot of confusion. It conjures images of SQL Injection, leading developers to misunderstand and security people to think they know how to fix it. I still refer to it as prompt injection but immediately follow that by saying it’s like social engineering but applied to applications instead of humans. I think this better conveys the breadth and potential complexity of the issue without presupposing a specific fix.
There’s the old social engineering saying that “there’s no patch for human stupidity.” Well, in this case, there’s no patch for application stupidity, either. This framing of the problem should also get people thinking about protection in layers rather than a specific individual fix. So, beware of a specific fix for prompt injection, in much of the same way as a single approach to social engineering. It’s security awareness month, and there is no awareness training for your applications. Well, yet anyway, and no, your system prompt doesn’t count😆 #LLM #Security #risk
The October 2023 security updates for Android address 51 vulnerabilities, including two zero-day flaws that were exploited in attacks. One of the exploited issues, CVE-2023-4863, is a heap buffer overflow in the Libwebp library leading to remote code execution. It was reported by Apple and the Citizen Lab group at The University of Toronto and had been used to deliver spyware to iPhones. The second zero-day flaw, CVE-2023-4211, affects the Arm Mali GPU driver and allows improper GPU memory processing operations. Google has not provided specific information on these attacks, but past instances have shown these vulnerabilities being used in exploit chains to deliver commercial spyware.
The Food and Drug Administration authorized marketing of a genetic test for detecting hundreds of gene variants associated with a higher risk of developing certain cancers.
