I think this was used as an opening(?) for the anime Blood+, but I haven't ever watched it. Instead, I ended up finding UVERworld because their albums were on the same shelf in my hometown library as T.M. Revolution's albums :leafeon_giggle:
I think the part that really feels good about Colors of the Heart, even more than the energetic, driven, rocky sound (that has a surprising amount of roundness to it) is the subtle vocal harmony line that's present during some of the vocals. It feels like it gives the melody more warmth and body without demanding any attention (though a harmony line demanding attention isn't bad, in my eyes/ears). I'm sure one of my old bandmates could go on for days about the subtlety of the way it's mixed.

In 1992, The Wedding Present released twelve singles – one each month. The A-sides are originals, and the B-sides consist of covers. All twelve singles made the UK Top 30, spawning videos, reviews, TV appearances, etc.
I’d heard several of these singles over the course of the year, but never purchased any of them. Thankfully, these 12 singles were curated into two albums:” Hit Parade 1” and Hit Parade 2 (January 1993). This was my first real introduction to this wonderful band. Been a fan ever since.

Largely recorded in 1966, the originators of the surf classic "Pipeline" offer up 10 tracks from the tape archive of Richard Delvy (Belairs, Challengers) and features the bands unique take on "Mr. Moto," plus some new surf anthems!
It also features a killer instrumental cover of The Fortunes' "You've Got Your Troubles."

Teengenerate - “Mess Me Up” (1994)
Extremely energetic, noisy Japanese garage rock. They were a short lived band, existing between 1993 and 1996, and known for their fun style of playing with a sense of humor and often incomprehensible English lyrics.
At the time, I hadn’t heard anything quite like this. But from the opening track, I was hooked.

White Flag release their LP “Wild Kingdom”
I think this is their 6th album. They put out a lot, and almost always on their own label, Gasatanka. Wild Kingdom is their best album imho. It’s also essentially an alternate version of their prior album, "Zero Hour".
Formed in Sunnymead, CA in 1982, by producer and underground music scenester Bill Bartel (aka “Pat Fear”). I’ll have to post about Bill in more detail. He was a unique dude, and taken from us way too early.
A punk band at heart, it's the crunch infused power pop that makes this album. Tracks like "Suicide King", "12 O'Clock High" and "Butterfly Revolution" burst with hooks and an overall pop sensibility.
My favorite track is "Face Down", with its Cheap Trick inspired riffing and energetic call and response "Heys" popping in and out of the song 👇

I love the lyrics. I didn’t expect the word “pimpin’” to be used in a soul-jazz song in 1967.

@dgar accurately noted the song I recorded and mixed over the past 2 days is #blues #rock. That song is special. It was started in ~1969 and finished last night. It had another part that became a different song. Didn't know what to put there. I wrote it just now. Took half a century to write. Please give it a listen here:

Joy Division released their first EP, “An Ideal for Living”.
From the opening track, you know this is gonna be good.
The sound here reflects the classic punk that inspired the band to form in the first place. Curtis’ voice was much less refined, possessing a more youthful, carefree quality that matched the energetic guitars and fast-paced drums.
I wish this was my first intro to the band (that was “Unknown Pleasures”)

Check this cool doc about a group of young Filipina American women who formed a rock band called Fanny, and...what happened. "Fanny was an American rock band, active in the early to mid 1970s. They were one of the first all-female rock groups to achieve critical and commercial success, including two Billboard Hot 100 Top 40 singles." - they were the inspiration the Go Gos and the Bangles and the Runaways. Now they're back!

Sublime release their first LP - “40 Oz To Freedom”
Sublime was basically a SoCal party band from Long Beach. They played a lot, put out a cassette tape, and grew their audience over the coming years. The popularity of this first album grew over time, helped mostly (iirc) the airplay the song “Date Rape” got on KROQ.
I got this in 1994 along with their second album, “Robbin’ The Hood”, and by way of my interest in label mates The Ziggens. The album opens with a sample from The Minutemen’s Double Nickels On The Dime, so right away I knew this was my jam.
I still enjoy Sublime’s blend of ska, reggae, punk, surf rock, and hip hop. It’s often low quality (lyrics, music quality, and even some of the backing vocals), all over the place stylistically, and sloppy.
It's a perfect expression of the old school punk DIY ethos.
