I made some progress on my #roguelike this week. I added visibility - so you can see rooms when you walk into them but tunnels have limited visibility. Checked out Magicraft. It fulfills the promise of being an Isaac meets Noita #roguelike. You place spells (projectiles, AoE, summons) in your wands, install "enhancements", have them trigger other spells in "post slots" etc. Not super varied yet (still in EA) but neat already!

Okay so I've spent around 12 hours with #Roguebook now, and I have to say... I really, really like this game
It has *just enough* of that #SlayTheSpire feel that that it draws you in, and then it really holds its own as a very distinct experience
Having to manage two characters and strategically switch between them, combined with the use of "allies" makes combat feel different enough that it requires its own strategies, and I really really love the progression mechanic of "pages" for permanent bonuses (in addition to the usual unlocking of additional cards and "artifacts")
Also I really like the map exploration mechanic... it requires a bit of getting used to, but becomes a fun bit of strategically using inks and brushes to cover as much ground as possible
Still has a bit of catching up to do with the 70+ hours I've logged in Spire, but I'm definitely continuing with it!

BPM: Bullets Per Minutes is a rhythm-based FPS roguelike. I discovered BPM when I was reading about Metal Hellsinger, and added it to my wishlist.
Joke was on me. Turns out I already owned it.
After the 250Mbps fibre was installed today, I went looking through my unredeemed Steam keys list, and spotted BPM. "Ooooh! I'll install that!"
While this has the same basic concept as Metal Hellsinger, it plays very differently.
Instead of raiding hell, you're a Valkyrie raiding randomly generated Viking-esque dungeons, rendered in an eyewatering, almost monochromatic colour palette.
You also absolutely MUST fire on the beat, or the gun just doesn't fire. Even on easy mode, the mobs hit hard. Each hit does 25% damage.
You walk into a darkened room that may or may not have a wild number of mobs in it, and you run around trying to make out where you're going, and not get hit.
If you're unlucky, there's a boss in the room, who might completely blind you for a moment... and then you're dead.
Ultimately, it was the graphics that killed it for me. I would probably persevere if I could easily make out what I'm shooting at against the backgrounds, but it just becomes too much work, particularly when there are a lot of mobs on screen.

#minecraft right now, if you die, you get five minutes of your gear existing in within render distance to recoup. If some of it falls in lava, that's gone. If you don't get it within 5 mins of reaching render distance, it's gone.
That is #roguelike pattern.
If you had a grave or chest to store your items, essentially infinitely, you can go get it next week after you take your kids to school and none of it will fall in lava.
It makes you feel calm.
#minecraft should be calm.
