Basilica di San Pietro in Montorio
#Roma
Fondata nel IX secolo sul luogo in cui si credeva fosse stato crocifisso San Pietro, la chiesa fu ricostruita alla fine del Quattrocento , grazie ai finanziamenti dei Reali di Spagna, su progetto forse di Baccio Pontelli e consacrata nel 1500 da Alessandro VI Borgia Il toponimo “Montorio” deriva da “Mons Aureus”, nome dato nel Medioevo al Gianicolo per il colore della terra o della sabbia .

Clivo di Scauro conserva l’antico nome originario, “Clivus Scauri“, come testimoniato da fonti medioevali a partire dall’VIII secolo, ma anche da un’iscrizione di età imperiale. L’apertura della strada va attribuita ad un membro della importantissima famiglia degli “Aemilii Scauri” (Marco Emilio Scauro, censore nel 109 a.C.). Caratteristici gli archi in laterizio che scavalcano la via, rifatti in età medioevale ma probabilmente già esistenti nei tempi antichi.

Sul colle Celio, la basilica dei Santi Giovanni e Paolo deve il suo nome a due ufficiali romani vittime della persecuzione dell’imperatore Giuliano l’Apostata .
Più volte saccheggiata e distrutta, la chiesa fu ricostruita nel XII secolo quando furono aggiunti il portico e l’alto campanile posto sui resti del Tempio di Claudio.
L’interno della chiesa, a tre navate, ha risentito dei restauri operati nel 1700 .

Nel 575 d.C. Gregorio Magno fonda nella sua casa, al Clivo di Scauro un monastero e dedica a S. Andrea un oratorio.
Da qui invia ad evangelizzare l'inglhilterra un gruppo di monaci guidati da S. Agostino, primo vescovo di #Canterbury.

Il s'agit d'un fan game Pokémon espagnol (une traduction anglaise existe) qui a la particularité de se dérouler... durant la Seconde Guerre Punique. On y incarne donc un·e jeune romain·e qui lutte contre... Hannibal tout autour de la méditerranée.

On 15th April 1945 the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp was liberated. Some 50,000 prisoners including around 3,500 children died in the camp of hunger, disease or physical violence. Those who died included Jews, Czechs, Poles, anti-Nazi Christians, homosexuals, Roma and Sinti. When the camp was liberated soldiers found thousands of unburied bodies.

23 March 1943 | Some 1,700 Polish Roma deported by the Germans to Auschwitz from Białystok were not registered in the camp. Because typhus cases were discovered among them, the entire group was murdered in gas chambers.

Today in Labor History January 19, 1945: Soviet forces liberated the Łódź Ghetto. It was the second largest ghetto in Europe, established by the Nazis for Jews and Roma. In 1940, there were roughly 200,000 inhabitants. Fewer than 900 survived the Nazi occupation.

387 Roma children were born in the camp. None of them survived.

12 January 1943 | A Czech Roma prisoner Ignacy Mrnka was captured by SS guards while trying to escape. He was taken to the camp arrest in the bunker of Block 11 at Auschwitz I & executed by shooting two days later after the selection made in the bunker.
