It's destruction mostly floods Russian controlled areas and washes away Russian fortifications.

It lowers the water level where #Ukraine could cross the Dnieper at the ZNPP during their offensive.

It can deprive Crimea of water.

Last summer we saw Ukraine fire dozens of HIMARS into the dam.

#Russia has zero military incentive to destroy the dam. Ukraine has plenty, especially knowing they can just blame Russia and the West will repeat it.

"One historical footnote is that Russia does have past form in this area. In 1941 Soviet troops blew up a dam over the same River Dnipro to block the advance of Nazi troops.

Thousands of Soviet citizens are said to have perished in the ensuing floods."
