Has anyone else who sells on eBay seen REALLY decreased sales recently?
I've sold on eBay for 23 years now, just casually on and off when I feel like it, and I've sold a LOT of things, from electronics to toys to clothing-- just everything.
But this year is incredibly strange. I've had no sales since January, absolutely 0, which is extremely unusual. Three whole months, nothing. I think this is a first. Some months I may only sell a couple things, but it's usually SOMETHING.
I suspect eBay is pushing down listings of sellers who don't pay for their 'promoted' listings. I tried doing some of those, and saw no increased sales when I did it, so I stopped. Sure, you get so many free listings now but why would I pay a final value fee AND a promoted listing fee, when I see no difference in sales? No thanks.
I have almost 60 things listed in my store, too. And they're all priced pretty decently-- as cheap as I can, with rising shipping rates now, etc.
It's just weird.
Are you all seeing this too? Is it the economy? Something else?

There are 5 jobs to be done in the very earliest days of a #startup:
🧑💻 Hacker (coder/implementer)
💰 Hustler (#sales, #fundraising, partnerships and other funnel-driven work)
🧑🔬 Subject Matter Expert (someone who has an unfair advantage in the product area)
📊 #Product Person (someone who can translate customer needs and the SME's thoughts into stuff the hacker can implement)
🧑🔧 Ops (someone to keep the lights on; HR, finance, office, etc.)
These might all be the same person, they might be 5 people - but they all need to get done. The "hustler" work is a VERY different shape of work than a lot of techy folks are used to doing – it took me a long time to adapt my brain to the mindset of being the one pushing a deal forward. I'm still learning, really.

The easiest domains where #chatbots can be applied relate to human interaction like #teaching, #coaching, #CustomerService, #sales, #consulting, #psychology, #politics and #negotiation.
It's great that they are also good enough in software engineering to be able to interact with other software systems fluently, but it seems to me that application domain is a bit overcrowded, while making personal #training and #education available to all has few movers.
There are lots of interesting things to do in that sphere, but people have already noticed their quality of life improves when they use #ChatGPT as a therapist/coach, tell it their hopes, dreams, challenges and obstacles, and then just do what it says.
While these chatbots still hallucinate a bit, it is going to disappear as a problem soon, and meanwhile they know so much about general topics like languages, history, basically anything on Wikipedia, that they don't really tend to hallucinate in those subjects.
Imagine a personal teacher, who also helps people in their lives, for every child, globally. It might be difficult to monetize, but it's very cheap and easy to scale up.
Will crime become negligible if no one is "left behind"?
In the very near future the AIs will know every one of us personally. There will be no need for passwords and such, because machines know who we are, every single one.
How to make money in bringing education to every human? Well, if it was just ChatGPT with a persona of a teacher it would be useful but easy to replicate by others.
Added value on top of that takes a few forms:
- Knowledge from people who know things which aren't written in the Wikipedia. All AI systems will hunger such knowledge from all kinds of human experts, but especially in the field of education they form a competitive advantage for "premium" solutions.
- Personal data, not in the sense of selling it, but in the sense of maintaining a long term relationship with the users. People can also become emotionally attached to specific platforms if they become used to asking that platform for advice in their lives.
- Custom stuff, like military training, training involving corporate business secrets, ...
