I should do more still life, I think. I've seen a lot of interesting pieces, but I struggle to think up interesting compositions myself. Perfectionism from anxiety gets in the way of just playing around sometimes. It makes me love my kid's photography.

Dumaguete Day #1 is in the books and wow did we have some awesome critters to kick things off. The stars today were the ribbon eels (we saw 3 on the middle dive), the many species of shrimp, crabs, and anemonefish covering every anemone, and the two species of mantis shrimp we spotted on the last dive.

Unexpected beauty. This is White Sands National Monument in New Mexico. One of my favorite places, the sand dunes are white as snow. Having traveled 2 days just to photograph the sands, we found it shrouded in smoke from the California fires. Disappointed, I got out my camera, this is what I got. LOVE it!

Where The Ground Moved Under Your Feet

On his death bed Marco Polo was asked to recant. Some of his travel stories were just too unbelievable. He refused – "I have not told half of what I saw." Those from Florida can relate. We share our lives and are met with disbelief. Even as our stories are warnings. A maternal great-grandfather once left the hills of east Tennessee to visit family in Florida. It was his first and last trip. He refused to return to where "the ground moved under your feet." They say his friends all laughed. Sand became a tall tale there. But Florida is used to this sort of reaction.
