I can't decide if this painted shell turned out interesting, or a dismal disappointment. It's supposed to be a tide pool with anemones, urchins, starfish, and barnacles, but... I was too excited by the subject matter of "tide pool" (I love tide pools), and didn't give enough thought to design.

Next time, I'll focus on just one creature and perhaps some bladderwrack.

I find that when a painting has gone wrong, it almost always went wrong in the initial design phase. I'm always sorry when I "wing it" instead of thoroughly working through questions on an initial sketch. I sometimes wish I could be more free-flowing in my approach, but, well, that's just not who I am.

Hippocampus pontohi ist ein Zwergseepferdchen und gehört zum sog. „Bargibanti-Artenkomplex“. Wegen ihrer geringen Größe wurden Zwergseepferdchen erst spät entdeckt. Der einheimische Tauchguide Hence Pontoh der Froggy Divers in Bunaken (Indonesien) entdeckte es dort 2003. Als man dann wusste was man suchte, wurde es auch an anderen Orten nachgewiesen. Ihre Größe und Beweglichkeit machen jedes Foto zu einer Herausforderung.

We were in awe watching "My Octopus Teacher", a #documentary on #Netflix. It reaffirms the gift each of us has to be alive, to learn, explore, understand new things, and to recognize what's really important in life. On hearing the title, recommended by a friend, one can't imagine the depth and beauty encompassed in the film and especially in the octopus herself. It's a year in the life of an octopus in a kelp forest off South Africa's coast.

As a #cephalopod lover of course I had to stitch some! I drew out some #cephalopods including a blue ring #octopus, a couple of #squid, a #cuttlefish, and a #nautilus. They're surrounded by a wreath of giant kelp, which was inspired by the coastal kelp from my home state (CA), and the logo of my favorite place- the Monterey Bay Aquarium in Monterey #california.

A small group of Yellowfin Surgeonfish. These flattened oval-shaped fish feature yellow pectoral fins, navy half-moon tails with a dark fin and white line along its back.
