The name "sailor's valentines" came from the belief that sailors created these objects for their loved ones while away on long voyages. A couple of pictures from diving with @vivia two weeks ago at Nea Peramos.

Some pictures from our dive in Nea Peramos a couple of weeks ago with @slomo .

Featuring an octopus looking at us, an anemone holding a sea shell, a beautiful abalone shell, and a landscape full of damselfish.

A Mediterranean Snakelocks Sea Anemone (Anemonia sulcata) holding one half of a smooth clam (Callista chione) inside out. The anemone has beige-gray-white tentacles with purple tips, and the clam is mostly beige-white, with its rings visible.

The shiny part of an empty abalone shell (Haliotis mykonosensis), also called Aphrodite's Ear in Greece. It is iridescent in turquoise and purple shades, and has a set of little holes arranged in a line parallel to the outer side of the "ear".

An octopus and some smaller sponges and seashells inside a large fan mussel (Pinna nobilis). The octopus uses the seashells in order to protect the entrance to its home. A flashlight is shining on the mussel and its reddish contents make a stark contrast with the blue water around it.

"Peaceful Sunset at Shell Castle"

A bit of a "fun" photograph today. There's a beach on the west coast of Australia called Shell Beach where the "sand" is all made out of little seashells. Waiting for the sun to set, the child in me had the great idea to build a castle out of these shells. Later, I took a photograph (or 10) of this. This is the result.
