If you're looking for a more modern alternative to the `du` command that shows you what's taking up your disk space, try `dust`. It returns a graphical overview with percentages, and uses colours to highlight the largest subdirectories.
And yes, `dust` is, of course, "du" + "Rust".

1. You can write quite a big project in #Bash.
2. But this is not a good idea. You will spot problems because of how #shell programming works.
3. However, those problems could be solved (or rather worked around) by (ab)using global variables.

I finally get #Nushell. I don't need a new shell, but what I really want is jq that has a proper scripting language, or a Ruby/Python for scripting which doesn't require a whole runtime+modules deployed.
Pipeing AWS commands + rich collection types + native json support = love it.

Here are some helpful keyboard shortcuts when you're using the Linux shell (e.g. bash, zsh):
- Arrow left/right move cursor
- Ctrl+a moves to start of line
- Ctrl+e moves to end of line
- Ctrl+u deletes to start of line
- Ctrl+k deletes to end of line
- Arrow up/down step through command history
- Ctrl+r lets you search in your command history

Every now and then, I discover unusual but clever uses of Linux shell constructs. For example, you might know that `touch newfile` will create an empty file if it didn't exist yet. But what if you'd like to truncate an existing file to delete its content?
That's where the empty STDOUT redirection comes in handy. Simply execute `> existingfile`, and it'll be rewritten without any content.

My membership of British Cycling has come around for renewal and I have no hesitation in telling them to get lost. The fact that they took on a major sponsorship deal with Shell (SHELL!) in October and have refused to reverse that decision is appalling. This is classic greenwashing - Shell are continuing to extract all the oil they can. Cycling should not offer shelter to the fossil fuel companies putting profit ahead of the planet.
