A view of a lake near Lowell, Oregon with conifer forest on either side. The lake snakes around a bend and there are more trees in the distance. It's a sunny day and the sky is brilliant blue with some nice puffy clouds.

The Lowell Covered Bridge, surrounded by the waters of the Dexter reservoir. It's white-washed with an A-frame roof. More trees and puffy clouds can be seen in the background.

A mural of Buster Keaton on the side of a two story building in Cottage Grove, Oregon. It's a famous image from the film The General in which buster sits straddling the cowcatcher of a moving train. He's got long hair and a poofy shirt and he's hunched over grasping the bottom of the cowcatcher with both arms, staring determinedly ahead. To the left of buster is a depiction of another famous scene from the same film (rendered in color, unlike Buster who is in black and white) in which a different train drives across a burning bridge, which collapses, sending the train plummeting into the river below. They really did this. It was the most expensive shot in film history at the time. The wrecked train was a local tourist attraction for about a decade until it was salvaged for the metal in World War II. The mural has a caption that reads, "The General, starring Buster Keaton, filmed in Cottage Grove, 1926"

Tango Night in Buenos Aires.

When we were in Buenos Aires we got the chance to take some tango lessons and then visit a milonga to watch some social tango. The lighting in the milonga was almost as dramatic as the tango itself.

A morning muskeg walk.

The muskeg: muddy pools of water surrounded by water plants and...more mud. There are conifers in the distance and in the VERY far distance is a mountain with a bit of snow on top and whips of clouds around its summit. The day is gray and cloudy but the green of the watery plants and the trees really pops!

A large metallic, irregular structure comprising tens of silver, tubular pipes of vetting lengths and diameters are joined to one another to form an arch hovering over the ground. Individuals and couples are standing under or around the structure to look at it. The structure is standing on a rock outcrop with leafless deciduous trees in the background. To the right and resting on top of a stone wall is a silvery sculpture comprising an undulating, smooth surface that ends by forming the face of Sibelius.

Our first campsite along the White Rim Trail in Canyonlands. It was pretty chilly, though we didn't get rained on.

The leaves of the plant are all long and narrow.

The same cluster of plants, but this time only a couple of straight dark stems are in sharp focus leaning towards the edges of the frame, and the rest is a hazy mid grey blur with hints of leaves in places.

The same plants again, but this time with a lighter feel, and plants coming in and out of focus in a dreamlike fashion. At the far right edge of the frame there is a single thicker heavier stem in sharp focus, which seems to ground the whole image as the rest drifts in and out.

I'm sharing this photo I took of two black bears playing for #SilentSunday because that's what I was when I came across them while hiking...I kept perfectly silent and still as they wrestled like I wasn't even there. I'm still not sure if they even saw me. Eventually they curled up for a nap behind a bush.
