Old style lanterns for the mid autumn festival. I went around with friends at night with lanterns like these. Unlike modern ones which were battery operated, We lit a small candle that was attached it to the wire candle holder in the middle and had to avoid strong winds blowing out the candle. It was great fun.

it's worth a watch. We need a change in the system. We can't keep on using a system that is not working and argue a logical fallacy "if it's not illegal then there would be even more cases" to support it.

Regulation is the path forward. Making dangerous things illegal just pushes them onto the black market and it becomes a game of Whack-A-Mole.

we already know regulation + education works; gambling, alcohol, cigarettes and prostitution.

Analogue bar with an analog camera:

A large NA cocktail list. They even gave me an interesting NA ‘shot’ made of raspberry, tea and citrus.

The food menu is entirely vegan. It’s in one of the locations where Crazy Rich Asians was filmed.

In a city of US$20 cocktails and US$15 beers, it’s average priced. They also have standard cocktails.

I used to drink a lot when I lived here. I miss bars more than I miss booze.

Peninsula plaza and peninsula shopping centres (across the street from each other) are hubs for two things I care about: Burmese food and culture, and film photography. In these two buildings alone you’ll get more Burmese restaurants and film photography stores then the Bay Area combined. I used to come here to buy domestic Myanmar travel and flight tickets.
You could also exchange kyats here.

If the Burmese population in Singapore were a city in Myanmar, it’d be a top 10 Burmese city by population.

For that reason, we have excellent Burmese food. There’s even regional cuisines (there’s a Burmese biryani spot, where the biryani is similar to Kolkata biryani.. look on the map, you’ll see why; Burmese Chinese, Burmese halal..)

My favorite cheap Burmese spot right now is Mandalay Style in the basement of Peninsula Plaza.

Being in this island city state country is weird. Some years you come back and there are brand new train lines in places you’d never even heard of. Some days you return from a day out and there’s a brand new part of the neighbourhood that literally wasn’t there this morning. Few of the places or buildings that mean anything to me exist anymore. More and more, I feel like I’m missing a place I don’t even know anymore.

1. ‘Dementia murals’ in the Stirling Road / Mei Ling St estate. This neighborhood is very ‘old’ and there is a project to create murals with items that older people will know (like this one is of traditional games). It’s called ‘dementia wayfinding’ murals.
