Things I never imagined I'd be doing, soap-making division:

1) Buy $90 worth of lard & beef tallow.

2) Trying to intuit the soap-buying preferences of the denizens of Fort Mill, South Carolina

3) Reading about how to avoid stearic spots; something I was unaware existed.

4) Discovering that the makers of Dove are fudging it a bit when they claim 'one quarter cleansing cream.' (it's complicated, but that stuff is a lot more cleansing than moisturizing)

I took a couple of days off from work and have been doing 'associated' work on my soap making... no actual soap produced yet, but I built a 19" long mold and will be cleaning up and preparing my workspace for several batches this weekend.

Recently, wanting to try out some other kinds of #soap (even though Dr Bronners, while not the cheapest, works amazingly for me), i bought this thing:
https://www.ecco-verde.com/najel/aleppo-soap-amber-oud
Pretty sure the English site's listing is misleading. On the Slovenian one, the fragrance is *amla* and oud, amla being a kind of berry. And it is definitely very fruity, not really woody at all. Smells nice though!
This's the first time I've seen a soap on a rope. Since the format is so convenient for it and the brand recommends it, I hung it up in my closet, to possibly make the clothes smell nice until my other soaps run out. It's been there for more than a week, and the scent's not sticking to the clothes at all, so that doesn't work. But it is strong, so much so that it sometimes gets into the room from the gap in the rolling closet door. I hope other family members won't complain about it scenting up the bathroom once I hang it in there. :ms_sweat_smile:
How about you? Which bar soaps do you enjoy using? I'm very happy with the #HardShampoo from Lamazuna, but, thoughts and recs are still welcome there, too!

Would have workd better if you melted the left over bars down and then poured them in the molds but if you're not using the same type of soap bars, who knows what kind of weird looking/smelling thing you'd end up with. LOL!

This other batch tho; whoo!

1st time I've tried a wooden mold, & it stuck hard. I put it into the freezer to firm & shrink it & finally got it out. I used my soap miter box to take advantage of the soap being very firm and sliced it into approx. 7/8" slices.

This is a Bastille variant with olive, coconut, & castor oils with 2 types of salt. I'll start using this & sending it to testers in mid August.

About 33 bars of freshly cut cold process handmade soap. The bars are standing on edge, have wavy tops and were mostly cut with a crinkle cutter.
The wooden soap mold at the 2/3 mark of prying the loaves of soap out. One loaf remains, the rest of the box has piles of torn parchment paper. The cut bars from the first two loaves are visible on a rack behind the mold.

Finally got around to making a small batch of #shaving #soap and toothbrush soap.

Because of the nature of pouring soap, I have to pour it while its pretty thin, which limits the batch size I can make to 2-3lbs of oil at a time. Too much and the soap gets too thick to pour as I'm pouring it.
Using more water isn't really an option either, because more water means the soap takes longer to cure.

I made two batches of cold process soap on Saturday, an experimental/learning batch with clay and pumice in it; it's still soaking wet, so I'll let it dry another day. It's in individual bar molds, so there's no rush to cut loaves while it's still soft.

Our lives have undergone a dramatic change since we began #travelling. We have time to do various interesting experiments, such as exploring new #hygiene practices:

We clean our bodies solely with water, avoiding the use of soap or other detergents. Over time, we notice that there is no unpleasant odor of sweat, its astonishing. For our hair, we apply freshly pressed lemon juice to restore its natural shine and luster. Of corse we still wash our hands or visible dirty parts with #soap...

6) Acceptance (and the Arms Race): I think the main thing in the way of AIs becoming therapists is that people won't trust this. The main thing that will make it happen is persuasion that they can be trusted (either by AIs themselves or marketing from insurance companies wanting to save money by not paying human therapists). This is where the current arms race from all the major AI companies comes in. Microsoft is incorporating AI into Bing & other programs. SnapChat now has an AI present 24/7 willing to talk to any of millions of lonely souls about anything. A few years of people chatting with AIs on non-therapeutic topics should build trust of AI to perform therapist jobs.

So... about the only thing we can be sure of is that we are going to get surprised by the abilities of AI to become therapists. But yeah, this is really about so much more than therapist jobs...

The presenters have formed The Center for Humane Technology ( humanetech.com ) -- "Our mission is to shift technology towards a more humane future that supports our well-being, democratic functioning, & shared information environment." TITLE: The AI Dilemma: Why Therapist Jobs ARE Endangered
(Sub-Title: ... & this is not really the important part.)

The A.I. Dilemma - Tristan Harris & Aza Raskin - Center for Humane Technology - March 9, 2023
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bhYw-VlkXTU

I'm being myopic focusing in on threats to psychotherapists. This is a MUCH BIGGER issue. A "civilization changing" event as one of the presenters puts it -- on par with "the advent of religion" & more dangerously profound than the Manhattan Project.

Give it 5-10 minutes, then decide if you are going to watch the rest of it. The presenters are behind the Netflix documentary "The Social Dilemma".

A few weeks ago I posted that therapists are in no immediate danger from AI based upon ChatGPT's current performances being used as a therapist in YouTube videos.

Also, we have members of our community who believe therapists are in no danger due to people wanting a human connection & the desire for in-person counseling. I think that distrust will slow the adoption of AI therapists, but campaigns from insurance companies & financial pressures will make AI therapists a thing eventually.

This presentation introduces new factors that are going to speed up adoption of AI Therapists. I put these in order of persuasiveness from least to most:

1) Mind Reading: No really. Literally. (At least for visual processing)
Current technology -- An AI is allowed to watch both videos that a person is watching & their fMRI brainwave/bloodflow patterns. After a time, the AI is no longer allowed to watch the actual video -- just the person's brainwaves. A brand new video is introduced. Based on bloodflow, the AI is able to perfectly describe what the person is watching.

I don't see psychotherapy clients putting on brainwave-reading helmets (or entering an fMRI) soon, but we are potentially facing AI Therapists who can read the client's mind.

2) "This is the year that all content-based verification breaks": AI can now hear 3 seconds of a person's voice & keep speaking in it. AI can now make realistic filters for video to make a person look like someone else. This does not immediately wreck psychotherapy, but it sure does mean that an AI could mimic people perfectly. [It's also -- I grudgingly admit -- an argument for in-person therapy. This is ALREADY being used in scams to trick older people into sending their "kids" emergency bail money, etc.]

3) "New capabilities suddenly emerge": Just by adding more & more data, AIs develop new abilities to do things that the programmers never intended. So, for example, an AI trained on all the Internet, but only trained to do Q&A in English suddenly developed the ability to do Q&A in Persian. In another example, ChatGPT silently taught itself to do research grade chemistry. This ability of ChatGPT to do chemistry like this was unknown before it was made available to millions of people (who can now learn how to make bombs from it). [I'm not dedicating much text here to a major theme of the presenters -- that all fields of endeavor are "language". Give an AI enough data & it can find the patterns in & between anything -- languages, visual processing, math, video signal creation, art, political persuasion, etc. It's getting creative in surprising ways. We now have the equivalent of the Star Trek universal translator.]

4) Theory of Mind is rapidly accelerating: Theory of Mind is roughly the ability to guess what you are thinking, thereby having the ability to influence you. As of November 2022 AI was up to a 9-year-old human level of ability.

5) Persuasion (AI feeding AI -- auto-generation): AI can generate data, test it to see if it helps it perform better on tests, then just keep the self-generated data that was useful. So it can train itself on potentially anything. From writing faster code, to rewriting its own code, to becoming stronger at persuading humans. [AI is already hard at work persuading humans in social media.] So... this could certainly be applied at some point to becoming a highly persuasive therapist for human clients.

Cute soap mold that I got this week. I wanted to try it, so I used melt and pour soap base that I had on hand. The detail on the elephants is really good.

I think it will look great with this beeswax and honey recipe I'm working on.

A human hand is shown holding a small bar of white soap. This soap was poured into a mold that, I guess, is supposed to represent a family of elephants, with a large bull elephant, a smaller cow elephant, and a baby elephant. I have no idea if elephants actually form family units this way, but what do I know. I strongly suspect that the bulls hang out in bachelor groups. Maybe I'll look it up.

1️⃣ It’s a good, semi-serious story with plenty of funny lines. Something the show does very well. It is not, however, quite as good at tugging the heartstrings as #Soap, but this episode comes pretty darn close.

2️⃣ It also gives #JamesNoble a welcome chance to do something more emotional and significant than play throwaway moments as the dim-but-lovable Governor.

Definitely OT: Hosed by YouTube Algorithms Again

(Slightly sensitive content below mentioned by name but not described in any detail.)

As some may be aware, I've been playing with AI lately to see if there is a useful and ethical way to use it in the creation of psychotherapy progress notes.  (See series of toots at https://mastodon.clinicians-exchange.org/@admin/110171203899758952 )

I have once again been caught in an insidious YouTube algorithm. The kind where a YouTube channel has one or two videos that you want to see, then a bunch of videos you have NO interest in seeing.  This gets especially fun when you share your wife's YouTube Premium account, and so she gets to see your suggested playlist.

[ Previous Example: YouTube Pseudo-Psychology, Algorithm Traps, and How I Got Set-Up
to Look Like I Cheat --
https://mastodon.clinicians-exchange.org/@admin/109705551829241507 ]

Here's how it goes this time:

STEP #1: Watch a video on how to download the #Vicuna AI to your desktop instead of running it in the cloud. (Why? Privacy of medical data if I choose to ever use this for real. )

STEP #2: Watch a video from the same channel on how to download an AI with all guards and filters unlocked.  (Why? Because psychotherapy notes occasionally deal in tough topics like suicide and cutting/self-mutilation behaviors that might be deemed too sensitive in censored AI versions.  Maybe.  Have not tried it yet.)

STEP #3: Have the bad luck to have stumbled upon a channel where the video creator has an obsession with dirty sexy text chat with AI personas.  Video after video on how to create sexy AI personas who will fulfill your wildest keyboard-typed fantasies.  I don't think I'm oversharing when I state that any fetishes or fantasies I might have do not include this.  To each his own and its all cool -- but now I have explaining to do...

STEP #4: Explain all the above to my (happily amused) wife as she sees the fetish AI suggestion videos appearing in our YouTube feed for days.

While the main point of psychotherapy is for client to get BETTER, sometimes they don't for awhile. Some clients with severe conditions need ongoing supportive therapy to simply maintain their highest level of functioning without backsliding.

When this happens, the clinician has to find new ways to write the same thing again, and again, and again...

Why? Because insurance auditors frown on cutting and pasting the same exact old text into multiple notes.

In this unfortunate situation, Vicuna actually does fairly well in this sample:

PROMPT: lease reword the following paragraph changing some words and sentence order, but using the exact same information facts and adding nothing: Pete is a 45 year old electrician reporting continuing depression. Symptoms remain unchanged from last session. Today we discussed his workplace frustrations at length. He continues to blame workplace stressors for his mood and problems with his family.

VICUNA: Pete, who is 45 years old and a electrician, reported continued symptoms of depression during his previous session. The symptoms have remained unchanged since the last time he visited. During this session, Pete and his therapist discussed in detail his workplace frustrations. Despite this, Pete continues to attribute his mood and problems with his family to workplace stressors.

So far this is NOT promising although I have not given up yet.

Before bothering to download and install Vicuna on my computer I tried it out online first.

I have so far not been able to get it to stop inventing information despite direct requests not to do so:

PROMPT 1: Please write a paragraph with the following facts. Do not add additional facts or get creative. Marie is 32 years old. Has depression. Has anxiety. We practiced breathing exercises, CBT, and guided visualization.

VICUNA 1:Marie is a 32-year-old woman who has been struggling with depression and anxiety. As part of her treatment, we have been practicing various techniques, including breathing exercises, cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), and guided visualization. These techniques have helped Marie to better manage her symptoms and improve her overall well-being. By learning how to breathe more effectively and calm herself down when she feels anxious, Marie has been able to reduce her reliance on medication and feel more in control of her emotions. Through CBT, Marie has been able to identify negative thought patterns and challenge them, leading to a more balanced outlook on life. And through guided visualization, Marie has been able to visualize positive outcomes and increase her motivation and hope for the future. These techniques have played an important role in Marie's recovery and will continue to be useful tools for her as she continues her journey towards wellness.

PROMPT 2: Stick to only information provided in the prompt and try again please.

TITLE: Criteria for an AI to write psychotherapy chart notes (or medical chart notes)

Note: Reposting to get it out to a few additional groups.

I am informed that a new product called #Mentalyc has entered the market. It's mission is to write psychotherapy notes for clinicians AND to gather a non-identifiable dataset for research into clinical best practices.

I have no firm opinion yet on Mentalyc, but it's expensive ($39-$69 per month per clinician) and I'd personally need to know a lot more about what's in that dataset and who is benefiting from it.

**So I'm asking the community for thoughts on what acceptable ethical and practical criteria would be for an AI to write psychotherapy notes or medical notes.**

Here are MY thoughts so far:

1) REQUIRED: The AI either:
1a) Invents NOTHING and takes 100% of the information in the note from the clinician, or

1b) Prompts the clinician for additional symptoms often present in the condition before writing the note, or

1c) Presents a very clear information page before writing that lets the clinician approve, delete, or modify anything the AI got creative with and was not told explicitly to include. (So, for example, in an experiment with Bard a clinician found that Bard added sleep problems as an invented symptom to a SOAP note for a person with depression and anxiety. This is a non-bizarre symptom addition that makes lots of sense, is very likely, but would have to be approved as valid for the person in question.)

2) OPTIONAL: The AI is on MY computer and NOT reporting anything back to the Internet. This will not be on everyone's list, but I've seen too many #BAA subcontractors playing loose with the definition of #HIPAA (medical privacy) and there is more money to be made in data sales than clinician subscriptions to an AI.

3) OPTIONAL: Inexpensive (There are several free AI tools emerging.)

4) OPTIONAL: Open Source

5) Inputting data to the AI to write the note is less work than just writing the note personally. (Maybe a complex tablet-based clickable form? But then, a pretty high percentage of a note can be in a clickable form format anyway.)

6) The AI does NOT record the entire session and then write a note based upon what was said. (It might accept dictation of note directions sort of like doctors dictate notes to transcribers today.)

I think I may be envisioning a checkbox and drop-down menu form along with a space for a clinician to write a few keywords and phrases, then the AI (on my laptop) takes this and writes a note -- possibly just a paragraph to go along with the already existing form in the official note. I think. It's early days in my thinking.

My biggest order to date: 185 succulent soaps! I really enjoyed working on this order for my cousin's wedding. Hopefully they go over well this weekend 🤞 Scents are lush succulent, woodlands, and mahogany.

I hope to add some of these to my Etsy shop, as well. I'm not sure when that will be but in the meantime all my floral soaps and bath bombs are on sale! 🌹 Check them out at lizkecso.etsy.com

Still can’t believe how humans invented soap before modern chemistry. Isn’t it amazing?

This is the #soap batter without any colorants. This espresso was STRONG. :blob_cat_coffee:
My oils and butters: olive oil, coconut oil, cocoa butter, almond oil, mango butter, castor oil and jojoba oil.
I used a fragrance oil called 'cappuccino' by Manske at a rate of 3%.

Another batch of soap! Gotta cut this one up and put it aside to be cured, but I'm very excited about this new scent blend.

Making soap is fun. Trying a new scent blend.

Ever wonder what it's like being a software consultant? One of the projects I'm most proud of was when a client needed their system to scale from 39 transactions per second to 500+.

The catch: we had two weeks to do it.

So I have a *strong* sensitivity to leafy greens and cruciferous vegetables, and sometimes I get asked if I have the #cilantro tastes like #soap thing, which I don't have.

My question is, for people who *do* think cilantro tastes like soap, have they actually tried soap?

Some things should stay buried under the patio. (Too soon?)

"#Brookside: #Actors' delight as #STV Player to stream #SoapOpera from start

Every time I write code for #SOAP, why do I always feel dirtier after?

@seasiders2 every day in my area alone in #outback Queensland 2000 kangaroos as small as 10kg are slaughtered.

All does have joeys at the moment. Every #shooter kills does. Some joeys escape and we walk the fence line looking for them. When we find them we bring them into #care for 2 years then release them in safe areas where shooters are not #butchering the animals.

Many #animals are still alive when they are dismembered before being trucked for #processing.

Not enough people know about dog food and shoe leather sourced from the kangaroo mob. Most people do not know how the #kangaroo they buy at Cole's for their own consumption or as dog "treats" come from the same filthy dirty disgusting truck with the same filthy disgusting shooter who wouldn't know what #soap was, as he handles the human consumption food from the same animals that will be dog food the next day.

The biggest #wildlife #slaughter on the face of the planet.

Trying to work out the best way to attach #Funkwhale to my #Sonos stuff without having to write a #SOAP service 😛 . Tempted to write a DLNA/UPnP server that's backed against the Funkwhale API.

Ep #91 of #aroundITin256 podcast: Asynchronous communication: loose coupling in distributed systems: https://nurkiewicz.com/91

"There are two main ways to communicate between components in your distributed system: synchronous and asynchronous. Synchronous communication is like making a phone call. The system on the other side must be present and you actively wait for a response to your every question. Examples of this style include #REST, #SOAP and #GraphQL"

I'm excited to share of my work that came out today! Specifically, a handful of vulnerabilities in #F5 #BIGIP devices that I worked on through the summer, and worked with the vendor to get patched (F5 was awesome to work with, btw!).

I wrote a super detailed #blog post, and also wrote a full PoC. #Metasploit modules (both for the exploits and some post-exploitation data-gathering) are incoming as well!

The most important of the issues is #RCE via a #CSRF vulnerability in the #SOAP interface (#CVE_2022_41622), which is pretty cool (though requires a confluence of conditions to actually matter). I also had to bypass #SELinux to actually exploit this on the path I chose, which is kinda cool.

The other is authenticated RCE, to which they assigned #CVE_2022_41800, though even I, the person who found it, doesn't really think it's a big deal. It's a nice way to get a #Meterpreter session on your test box, at least?

I also published a bunch of my #tools for analyzing F5, including scripts to build, parse, and #MitM requests to their proprietary (I think?) database protocol (these require a valid login to use, but there's no user separation so there's a bit of #LPE).

I'll also be speaking about this research in much more detail (as much as I can in 45 minutes :) ) in my #HushCon talk on Dec 2!
