It's official - I must be certifiably crazy. I just agreed to fly my family halfway across the pond to NC for Christmas next year. I also agreed to fly my wife's family to spend the week with us in the same vacation house. 14 people under one roof for a week. I don't do well when there's more than 3 people in a room. This is going to be interesting. Fortunately, I have a year to mentally prepare. 😖
As for me, I have found my Heaven on earth in my dear solitude in Carmel, where I am alone with God alone. I do everything with Him, so I go to everything with a divine joy; whether I’m sweeping, working, or at prayer, I find everything good and delightful since it is my Master whom I see everywhere!

"Being alone is a difficult discipline: a beautiful and difficult sense of being solitary is always the ground from which we step into a contemplative intimacy with the unknown, but the first portal of aloneness is often experienced as a gateway to alienation, grief and abandonment. To find ourselves alone or to be left alone is an ever present, fearful and abiding human potentiality of which we are often unconsciously and deeply afraid.
