What's the most time-consuming part of #songwriting for you?
For me it's #Lyrics by far. They're always a struggle. If I could find a lyricist to work with (a Bernie Taupin) I think I'd be ridiculously prolific!
I like my lyrics, and am satisfied when they click. But they take a loooong time for me to figure out. Transitions are #2, and mixing #3.

My husband tells me that for him, it has a kind of Pogues type, pub song meets New York punk feel to it. That's not what I was thinking about or going for, but I can see it.

@Mustbetuesday I like to start with the music first because it's more about feel and emotion, and then use my "left brain" to add language. But if I try to start with language, it feels backwards to me and I never produce something that really hangs together. My creative/emotional side is grounded in the feel, not the language based concepts.
@Mustbetuesday I keep a list/journal of potential song titles, pulled from phrases or expressions I think work coming from everyday speech.
My default process is to write the chords, then the melody, pick the title that fits the vibe, then add lyrics. But I start with a placeholder concept, even if it changes as the song emerges.
