Today's adventure took place at the Magnolia Plantation. First, a tour of the family home, then a tour of the slave quarters, bringing home the reality that Plantation life was only possible when there was plentiful 'free' slave labor. After lunch, I took a tram ride around the extensive grounds and a guided walk in the Audubon swamp, named after John James Audubon, who visited often and drew many of the birds he saw there.

This morning, I embarked on a long anticipated trip to Charleston, South Carolina! Pictures are the yard in my cute little rental house, and then an assortment of photos from my walk along the waterfront and some of the historic homes downtown, including Rainbow Row. Someone took my picture in front of the famous pineapple fountain! Had an amazing shrimp and grits dinner at the Fleet on the waterfront. What a great start to my mini vacation! 🙂
