I have a Lacie 2big TB2 RAID enclosure that works perfectly well BUT only has 2x 3TB drives (in RAID 0, so 6TB - data safety is of no concern).

Question: Lacie's max supported drives are just 8TB. I'd love to go big with the Seagate Exos 20TB drives. Possible? Is it a hardware limitation of the controller chip or something? Or was 8TB simply the maximum when they last updated the compatibility chart?

"A first of its kind energy storage system will be coming to Wisconsin in the next few years, and could serve as a blueprint for wide-scale deployment across the country.

Alliant Energy on Friday announced it received a $30 million federal grant for a 200-megawatt-hour storage system in Columbia County.

According to the U.S. Department of Energy, the project would be the first to demonstrate the carbon dioxide-based energy storage system at a commercial scale.

The Columbia Energy Storage Project will offer 10 hours of energy storage capacity by compressing carbon dioxide, or CO2, gas into a liquid, Alliant said. When energy is needed, the system converts the liquid into gas to power a turbine that generates electricity. The gas will be stored in what utility officials call an "energy dome."

Ok, I need your help.
While moving a folder on one of my nvmes, I suddenly get a Input/Output error. I already checked SMART - the SSD is totally fine. Of course I have no current backup of this exact folder 🙄 .
FS is NTFS (Yeah Ik it is shit) and I already tried ntfsfix...
Any ideas?

Hoooooo boy.

"Syncthing is not a backup!" they said. And I just learned why - the hard way.

Apparently, when moving files around, it can happen that it deletes them first and recreates them in their new location later.

I was reorganizing my files on the remote end when the remote disk failed. My local copy was in the process of mirroring the changes and is now incomplete.

Which means the only intact copy of all my files is on the failed disk. Wish me luck.

Does any #mastoadmin know of a good backup solution for media files? I was trying to get backups to sync with Hetzners storage share system but doing it via WebDav is sorta slow with multiple files + encryption.

It works fine for database backups, just not the media files/folder.

Before anyone suggests AWS, I don't feel comfortable using an Amazon owned product/service for anything mastodon. I'd rather support someone smaller if possible.

Another benefit to using #Cloudflare #R2 #object #storage is I can link directly to a subdomain and Cloudflare automagically sets everything up so I don’t have to host the #CDN files on my webserver freeing up resources AND bandwidth! I mean, I only get 20TB of bandwidth. Every byte counts! /s
