What the frediverse needs is a meme server
Basically a crowdsourced instance where memes are kept
But not just a pile of hopeful clip-art which mostly doesn’t apply anywhere specific, not just a collection of tired arbitrary animated gifs from the past 10 years or so
This would be a curated, dynamic and above all meaningful set of memes that reflect the zite-guys (oh those guys, the zite guys, they’re always on top of things, it’s as if they’re the spirit of the age)
technically, the animated gif is actually a good medium (scarred by the amount of prehistoric pixels animated gifs extant from the days of the last century)
Even the two-frame; three-frame; four-frame memes consisting of static images with burned-in text are valid stories
But we have other formats now, a simple two, three, or four step sequence of still images with dynamic overlaid SVG text and arrows and stuff could work as a new meme format (wrapped as SVG)
This could need and complement the MFM markup that Calckey promotes
But anyway, whatever the details, the idea that there’s a place to go to to refer to current memes and pull them from there would mean that individual instances don’t have to have the load to store the (by then) multiple copies of it as it spreads, it’s all canonical
The curated side of it could mean that that’s where the topicality, the currency, the finger on the button is – that’s where the pulse of the thinking of the fediverse is – that pile of memes in one place
Dangerous idea: it could also be curated in terms of thought direction, to weed out ‘poisonous’ or ‘bad’ thinking, to weed out unhelpful memes from the perspective of human potential or achievement or integrity, and promote good helpful (happy?) thinking to build on – ie weighted more to the positive than evil

The fisherman, Urashima Tarō rescued a turtle that took him to the undersea Dragon Palace (Ryūgū-jō) where he fell in love with Princess Otohime.
After a few days, he wanted to return home and she gave him a parting box.
When he arrived on land, he did not recognize his village or anyone there. Asking around, he realizes that almost 100 years had passed.
Miserable, he opened the box and immediately turned into an old man (in some cases- to dust) as the years caught up with him.

i see this failure mode all the time! i think this kind of projection is very much at play when people would rather stick to crumbling "civilization" places rather than try to live more with the land. my mom is a great example: for her, the outdoors is for enjoying and looking at, but the idea of having to live in any way that might be *not* civilization is....just unthinkable!
Subverting neuroessentialist ways of thinking and being require:
knowledge and understanding of:
the history and politics of epistemology.
AND ontology cannot be assumed.

Summer, not far from my work in south end; a straight ride from my rooming house, so I wore my uniform on the bike. As I was going around a bus, driver had parked, & was running across the road to get a coffee, without seeing me, & he darted in front. I ran right over him.
Again, what is wrong with people?
He got up, got coffee, got on bus & left? I was still laying on pavement, torn up, uniform ripped. /END OF STORY

#Biking to work on the hill, I caught up to him, but passing would be risky, since it was very foggy on the road.
I wanted to put a little more force into my downstroke & pass him quickly, & I broke my bike in half. It let go at the weld, pieces flew into traffic, & I was torn up but not seriously hurt on the road. When fitness guru caught up, the bastard drove right by me without even asking if I was OK?
I've biked more than he has, methinks.

Everyone who used the expression "I must get back in shape" is implying that at one point in their life, they were *IN SHAPE*, but I really was in shape once. I'd bike every day, run 10 miles each day, I was light and fast.
My bike was one speed. No gearing down on hills, use more force. A fitness instructor near where I lived, did his stretches while I watched with my coffee, then got on his bike to go to work (same as me). But I was in better shape

every civilized country has changed storm drains from SLOTs to Squares, except old Montreal. Down near the river, after returning from uptown, the front wheel of my bike fell into a storm drain and hurled me into the air, to land on my face down the road. I skidded a bit, keys in my pocket wore through and I got some fancy road rash souvenirs of Vieux Montréal..

I had been observing, that when we arrived, our *guy* had more than one beer. Obviously I can tell the difference between one, and 4 beer in how you roll your R's. 😂 He was getting hammered and we should get back to the ship while he can still drive!
Every 20kms was a pit-stop window he'd stop, have a beer & continue. We stopped 3 more times on the way to the ship. We didn't want him drinking more, so we gave him 🇨🇦 beer to take home

Curacao bike run.
He wanted us to see his *plantation* and it was in structure, just that. There were people who lived as workers on his land, that raised their own animals and food while tending his land in payment for the lodgings.
He owned acres and acres down to the ocean. He just held a beer in his hand and drove us across pastures to see mixed Wild Boar and domestic Piglets in black and pink spotted combinations. I was invited back anytime. ,...

NEW MODE OF TRANSPORT
It started as a bike ride, but ended with a ride home. We cycled 90kms around the tropical island of Curacao in 33 degrees Celsius. Near the end, one guy blew a tire. Everyone else kept going, I stayed back to help him try to fix it. This was very isolated. 20kms of road, then a canteen window and no garage or other service for 20 more.

A theme of #MonsterSlaying for #MythologyMonday.
Most people know the tale of the Lambton Worm from Co. Durham, but fewer people seem to be aware that NE England and the Scottish Borders have a plethora of similar worm stories. The Longwitton Worm in Northumberland lived in a burn that rose from a healing spring, and could only be killed when drawn out of the water. The Linton Worm in the Borders was killed by a local laird, using a burning peat on the end of a lance (the same method used in the legend of the Stoor Worm, all the way up in Orkney), and is commemorated by a medieval (said to be 12th Century) stone carving of the event above the door of Linton Kirk.
My favourite one to tell is cheating on the theme, because the Laidly Worm of Spindlestone Heugh, near Bamburgh in Northumberland, isn't slain at all, but to tell you what happened to it would be to spoil the story...

The story of Fish:
I’m allergic to cats. Always have been. Nose runs, eyes run, can’t breath. Then I met Mouse at a spice shop in Jaipur. Jumped on my lap, curled up, insisted on being petted. My nose was filled with turmeric and roses, and little Mouse, at most five pounds, didn’t set me off. And I thought, “Maybe…”
A month later, my daughter, jokingly asked if we could get a cat and showed me a picture of three little kittens a friend was trying to find homes for. She was unprepared when I said “Sure!”—she’d only asked knowing it was impossible. But, she was leaving for college in the fall and her younger sister would be better for having a companion. And the house wouldn’t feel so empty.
Stephen hated gym class. Well, I guess it wasn’t gym class specifically that he hated, it was the shower room after gym class. Well, it wasn’t so much that he hated the shower room, but that he felt like he looked forward to it for all the wrong reasons. How could something that was supposed to get you clean make you feel so dirty?
