“A watering hole is "a sunken area of land that fills with water". Watering holes can form through a number of processes, one being from elephants digging up termite mounds for nutrients in the soil, repeatedly digging at the same location until a depression large enough to hold a substantial amount of water.”

Or it’s a favourite spot on the burn that flows down to the gardens at Dunvegan Castle. Brodie not only drinks but has been known to retrieve sticks there.

A common misconception associated with watering holes is that, due to the common need for water, predator animals will not attack prey animals in the vicinity of the watering hole. This trope was exploited, for example, by Rudyard Kipling in The Jungle Book, which describes a "truce" at the watering hole as a plot point. In fact, it has been observed that "lions usually ambush their prey by hiding in long grass, often in close proximity to a watering hole". I am fairly confident that there are no lions on Skye.

Reverse image search tells me this sweet-scented wildflower is Joe Pye weed. Feel free to correct me, this is not at all an area of expertise for me. Whatever it is, you could smell its sweet scent from a long way off and the bees seemed to like it.

Walking a dirt and gravel path beside a large lake. The path is raised about 10 or 15 feet above the lake to our right and a flat stretch of grass to our left. The right shoulder of the path slopes steeply down to the lake and is covered with a wild profusion of leafy shrubs and wildflowers. The left shoulder slopes steeply down to that grassy area, which has been recently mown. The opposite shore is heavily wooded. It is post sunset, the sky is filled with thin clouds streaming past us tinted bright pink and darker purple from beyond the horizon by the rays of the sun. All this is mirrored on the gently rippled lake surface.

From 11 June the loco-hauled service will be replaced by newer ICE4 sets. Timings of ICE 118-119 stay the same (no stops in Aulendorf and Göppingen anymore).

I'm out of my rut and back to (mediocre) shooting again.

I now have a summer project in mind to get some better composed contrast shots of the arcades with shadows taken at the right time of day.

My perspective is slightly off, and the shadow positioning isn't quite right, with shadows slightly obscuring the entrance sign. The composition isn't perfect either, with a half-visible second subject sitting in obscurity, and a passerby crowding the shot behind the main subject.

What a day. The greenness is still fresh as summer hereabouts comes with great whooshes and sudden arrivings. It can be cold at night and in the morning but when the clear, clean air is pierced with sunlight it is the most glorious feeling. Wild flowers don’t show off here. They play a secondary rôle. The beautiful and fast-flowing Animas River flows from the peaks of the San Juan Mountains, south through Durango, Colorado and into New Mexico. It is one of the last free-flowing rivers in the state. The river gets its name from the Spanish term for "river of lost souls." But, don't let the meaning of the river's name deter you.The picturesque river is the perfect destination for outdoor recreation such as tubing, kayaking, stand up paddle boarding, white water rafting and fly fishing. For the less adventurous, there are trails that wind along the river offering the opportunity for a hike or a place to picnic while enjoying nature and the sound of the water.
