One of our first outings after moving to Arkansas in 2016 was to see the Perseid meteor shower under dark skies. I scouted a location in Google Earth and we set off in the early morning hours to catch a lackluster performance of the meteor shower, but the sunrise made the early morning drive worth it!
It was our first time seeing some of the more rugged portions of the Ozarks and I can't think of a better introduction to our corner of the state!

It was absolutely glorious this morning. Started at 03:15 with clear skies, lots of stars and a faint milky way. Slowly the birds started their day and from deep down some cow bells accompanied me. At 05:15 on the summit, alone. Excellent coffee at 05:30, before the sunrise started at 05:45. Some surprised faces appeared, that they were not the first on the summit. They found a spot for themselves, so we all could enjoy the absolute quietness of the starting morning. Stayed about an hour before descending. Was back in the valley just in time to have the first warm croissants from the bakery. All in all, like a child in a candy shop.

Made it up to the viewpoint on Larch Mountain for this first time this year. The ascent was just over 4000 feet if elevation over 7 miles and 3 hours. While the snow cooperated, the clouds unfortunately did not. I saw the tip of Mount Hood poking out of the clouds and could barely make out St Helens in the distance. The rest were hiding. The snow has mostly melted with some snow fields above 3500 feet.
