Okay I feel I've told this story before, but new account and all, so I'll try to catch you up to date.

I started my first year at #University. And per #school policy first years have to live in the #dorms. I'm in one of the #GirlsOnly dorms. Before classes started my proposed #roommate made some very unkind comments about me being a #lesbian, in front of myself, the #RA and a couple of #faculty members. And she was unceremoniously told she was not welcome at the university. The student they found to replace her is male, so I ended up without a roomie, which since I suffer from #chronic #migraines is a nice thing.

Last week was #Frosh week, where all the first years have to do stuff for #charity. So the girls in my dorm did a car wash. Absolutely glorious autumnal swim in the lake this morning. Water temp is still hovering at 21 degrees, but the water is now starting to clear and visibility is great. The sun was out and the lake was calm. I've barely seen as much as a minnow in here, but today I swam with three huge carp. They weren't in the least bit bothered by my presence either. I should think not, judging by the size of'em!

Back to swimming today after an 8 year gap. Two lessons learned — I will be very sore tomorrow, and if you lose a lot of weight your floatability goes away. I had to use a pool noodle to stay on the surface, otherwise had a sad tendency to sink. My shoulder hurts.

I injured it sometime this spring, and it just hasn't recovered. So I visited a physiotherapist last week, and he informed me that I had a bog standard, easy to fix, rotator cuff injury.

So now I am the proud owner of some really large rubber bands and a very specific exercise routine.

I am avoiding other upper body work while this heals... but it turns out London is great for cycling.

Bellingen just smashed in a "$5.2M “gate way to the Promised Land” so that mass tourism can speed along the new 'highway' (Gleniffer Road) to the Never Never Creek. It is the town's main 'tourist destination' (but has no public toilet).

In January the Promised Land swimming hole near Bellingen recorded faecal contamination of water. "Council advised swimmers to stay out of the Never Never River.” Humans and dogs were blamed for the faecal matter. "It has been very popular over the holiday period and there are certainly indications that people have been using the riparian area there along the banks for toileting purposes”

Soooo, I've had two (of four) swim lessons so far to try to relearn how to swim and work through my anxiety about breathing when things could go terribly wrong if it's done incorrectly.

I haven't gotten to practice a ton yet (my shoulders can't handle too much), but by the end of today's at-home practice, I swam the whole length of my complex's pool without stopping in the middle. 😳

It was messy and gaspy and splashy, but I fucking did it. 😤
