@ConatusPrinciple I haven't gotten through Capital yet, but from what I have read of Marx, as a teacher, you are involved in the "social reproduction" of society, by virtue of preparing the society's newest members for participation in said society, particularly in the economy. Social reproduction is a necessary component of every mode of production; without it, the society eventually ceases to exist.

So I would assume that, by *default* at least, anything falling under the umbrella of social reproduction is "productive labour," unless some sort of exception is argued for.

I have to leave for work in a few minutes. It’s the least favourite part of my job (apart from administration) - teenagers and school sport.

I’ve worked in sports for 30+ years and I love sports of all descriptions. I don’t really understand how people don’t love sport but I know that those people exist in vast numbers.

So why are we forcing kids to do sports they don’t enjoy? I know that physical education is part of the school curriculum, I studied as a school teacher, but there’s more to PE than doing sport.

Then again, there’s going to be kids who are oppositional defiant and won’t behave regardless of what activity they are in, just because.

This semester I had 7 students submit final research essays that were written by an AI chat bot.
Between the research I have to do to compile evidence, the Academic Integrity interview with the student, & the paperwork to be filed with the university, that's an additional 6 hours of my time per case that I do not get compensated for.
And I haven't had time to grade the papers written by the honest students.
This is f-king insane.

In my school days, home ec was for girls only, and shop class was for boys only. When I was in my late teens and early 20s I was an artist's model for an Australian writer and painter. Modelling included clothed and unclothed and I got to dress up in some amazing frocks.

During these hours of lying around we would talk and drink whiskey as he sketched or painted. I learnt so much from this man - his knowledge of art and literature was astounding. He was an excellent storyteller and had had some wild experiences.

He helped me with my own writing and art practice. In later years we collaborated on print folios and private press books. He always pushed me and encouraged me.
In the last 10 years we have had little contact as life, family and work decisions separated us.

Yesterday I learnt that this incredible person is now confined to a wheelchair and his dementia is so bad he can no longer communicate.

So now I am remembering and thinking a lot about where thoughts and information go. He would be so angry with who he is now.

When my mother attended my 4th grade parent #teacher conference it was said to her, “You should get Victor a computer. He excels in math, and I really think it would be a great tool for him to expand his mind with”.

The man who said that to her died today at the age of 89. I feel like I owe him so much for helping jumpstart my fascination with technology, and what would later develop into a career I feel made for. I have benefited greatly from his insight at that time. Rest in peace Mr. Poe.

The North Texas Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force and FBI Dallas Division’s Child Exploitation Task Force said Friday that from Jan. 16 through Feb. 10 highly skilled computer crimes investigators from agencies around North Texas took part in Operation Janus, an effort to identify and rescue children forced into sexual acts and arrest the abusers who were trafficking images and videos of those acts online.

The operation wrapped up Friday with the rescue of 28 children and the arrest of 59 people who are now facing at least 80 criminal charges. The investigation involved nearly three dozen law enforcement agencies from across North Texas and from as far away as Alaska.

Investigators said the alleged list of crimes ranges from meeting victims to possessing harmful material on electronics. NBC 5 has also learned the arrested individuals include paramedics, firefighters, a teacher and a nurse and that some of the victims targeted young children, including infants.
