Hard to know what to make of #google #Pixel feature having 7 years of updates 🤷

Good for #sustainability perspective, especially if phones handed down to others (e.g. children) or sold on. 👏

Then again, does it imply that #phones likely to only incrementally improve over 7 years, and therefore #android software updates will suffice for all that time to keep the phone functional? 🥱 #teampixel

Dang, I was really hoping Pixel 8 would support the magnet array for Qi2, but apparently it won’t. 😭

MagSafe is neat and you can get mostly there with cases on other phones, but also I don’t use a case with my phone.

When I upgraded from a Pixel 7 Pro to a Pixel Fold, Google was offering a free Pixel Watch with every Pixel Fold preorder. Since I already had one, I offered it up to my buddy Matt and he posted about it. Google saw it and did something cool and sent us both free new Pixel Watch bands! These look dope!

What is the closest Android launcher to the Pixel launcher experience, but with a search bar that I can change to DuckDuckGo? That’s literally the ONLY thing I want to change about the default launcher, and afaik it’s impossible (European regulation be damned).

I am explicitly NOT interested in manually recreating the experience with a much more complicated launcher like Nova or Action Launcher.

The Pixel Fold has been really validating to use. I took a lot of flack for suggesting the Galaxy Z Fold hinge was the wrong orientation three years ago. I preferred the Surface Duo "book" form factor.
Now all these reviewers talking about how nice the Pixel Fold is for being a "digital moleskine".
I feel seen. 😊

Lenovo USI Pen 2 snaps magnetically onto the back of Pixel Tablet; it gets a little cockeyed, but overall stays attached well.

It doesn’t _quite_ feel like the experience you’d expect from something made to work that way, but it even stays attached in my backpack and can stay on the tablet on the Charging Speaker Dock.

I saw some reviews saying the pen was not magnetic, but I think the tablet’s top magnets are just holding onto the internal metal/battery.

I'm using the Pixel Tablet w/Android as a "computer" today, and yeah, it still falls short in a few ways.

For touch-based multitasking, I love the new split view, taskbar, and overall setup. But for a mouse and keyboard, it's not there yet, which, fair, they don't advertise it as a laptop replacement!

For anyone curious, here's what I've found so far (thread). I hope this can help inform some good/bad for people designing adaptive experiences.

I’m like 90% sure the “oh wow super adaptive, look, we didn’t forget about tablets!” Google Messages app on the Pixel Tablet (which lets you conveniently read/respond to messages from your phone on the tablet) is just their desktop web app in a wrapper, and that’s super disappointing.

It just feels off, and lacks the polish of the native phone app.

I got the Pixel Tablet because:

• We like our Nest Hub but wanted a bigger one

• I haven’t gotten a new tablet since the Nexus 7 (which is still kicking!)

• The idea of an always-charged tablet that’s still useful when not being “used” seems brilliant

• I can unlock it and flash whatever software on it, which has actively prevented previous Google hardware from being insecure e-waste

Spoiler: it’s probably only just “fine,” but I *love* it.

I’m currently backing things up and am going to try a factory reset first, but if I see the same bugs, I’ll just wipe and go back to Android 13 at least until the next beta, if not the stable release.

I really like where Android 14 is headed! It just needs more time to bake. Which makes sense (I signed up for a knowingly unstable beta!), but I’m gonna miss some of the new stuff—when it worked.

I upgraded to Android 14 beta 3 and regret my life choices. It's *so* pretty (Material You seems way more tunable, and includes a monochrome style!), the lockscreen clock stuff is fun, and a lot of the little design/animation improvements feel great… but it’s buggy as heck for me. 😖

Case in point: this app just… crashed… while typing… because I tried to accept a grammar suggestion. Text selection, switching to recent apps, notifications, the share menu are all just broken.

I do enjoy split screen on my Pixel for events like this. I can have the video up top with Mastodon at the bottom. Better than picture-in-picture since it doesn’t cover up the app.

(The top corners not being rounded is driving me nuts though!)

Google Fi could use some work on their messaging.

“All plans now have full connectivity with compatible smartwatches”

“[E]xisting Simply Unlimited Users won’t have wearable connectivity turned on until after their first billing cycle following April 19, 2023.”

My previous billing cycle ended on April 19, but support says that I have to wait until May 19 to activate…
