Five years ago Forest had a bad dose of IVDD, barely noticeable to me on Dec. 23rd, saw an urgent vet (sports injury specialist) on the 24th and spent the next 8 weeks with absolute cage rest.

IVDD, even when seemingly overcome, is a life long condition and requires extra caution as well as notifying any new vet of this condition.

Lo and behold, just attaching the (fish-form) mask with its own ear loops to the muzzle did the trick.

Not sure if useful against smoke from #Forestfires

*Forest graciously agreed to the brief photo shoot on the condition that no mobile phone was used in the process and was generously compensated immediately afterwards.

I have a bunch of new, really good masks that do not seal well on my face. The initial idea was to alter these masks so that they fit Forest (if you fold an average ear-loop mask a certain way, it will make a passable shoe for a dog ).

Anyway, that didn't really work. So I bought a cheap and comfortable muzzle that sits nicely on his long snout with room to lick his lips. The 'better' muzzles were very restrictive and unsuitable.

Posting this for a friend -

My dachshund is quite low to the ground and has an exceptional nose for finding things. He can kill a mouse in passing and unfortunately likes to lick at all sorts of things.

If the birds were to fall from the sky because of avian flu we would still need to go out for wee-wees and I would need Forest (see below) to be protected. So I came up with the idea of ... wait for it .... a mask!
