Why don't various sites that offer suitably licensed PBR #textures bother telling for each #texture that corresponds to some real-world material what the physical size of the texture square is, roughly?
For instance the texture in the image, a typical metal plate as used for walkways in industrial plants, ships, and whatnot. It is a real-world texture. When you use it in your 3D model you want the scale to correspond to reality. Why don't they tell the physical resolution? @jimmac, any insight?

Used by mountaineering and climbing clubs for basic training, the quarry is made up of dolerite, an intrusive igneous rock which is dark, hard and smooth.
Time, weather and the hand of man have exposed the dolerite to the elements, creating a fascinating series of crags with interesting shapes and textures.

Today I finally took the plunge to work on my first acrylic painting on canvas.
To say I was nervous would be an understatement, but I had a lot of fun experimenting and learning.
The painting is on top of modelling paste which I added to create texture and depth.
It was inspired by JRR Tolkien's Lord of The Rings - I think I'll produce an interior design range called 'Mordor'! 😂

I've created the best* downscaling algorithm. Available as a Python module, bfscale (Best Fit Scaling) scales an image by finding the best values for each pixel based on how they'll scale back up.
First image is the unscaled image, second is bfscale at 20% resolution, third is linear scaling at 20% resolution.

I was building a python shell script to convert and collate some meshes; I store these next to my much bigger PyQt asset pipeline app (that I use to convert and collate countless layers of models and textures) and I accidentally ran the wrong run config in PyCharm.
I was 100% sure it would be fully broken.
It wasn't. It still works (kinda).

That was probably meant as a joke, but a good #SoundDesigner can make an entire track from nothing but one short #VocalSample, and you'd never know it.
The human voice has lots of great #textures and #harmonics that easily lend themselves to #SoundDesign techniques like #GranularSynthesis and #resampling. Add in a healthy dose of the usual effects (like #reverb, #delay, #chorus, #distortion, #repitch, etc.), and the possibilities are nearly limitless.
Sorry for the info dump; Sound design is one of my lifelong passions, and I can't help chiming in when someone brings up audio #sampling. I hope you at least found it somewhat interesting. 😅

Nothing brings out the ten-year-old boy in me more than a tidal pool filled with sea creatures, but the quiet artist in me is drawn to the shapes, colours and textures of what grows where the land meets the sea.

Eventually, with all the experiments with #scanned #textures, #texturedtext, and #collageart the penny dropped. My experiments with deconstructed text actually were part of an #art genre, #asemicwriting. As it happens, my daughter is a #Downs person. She has communication difficulties, but one of the things she enjoys doing is writing-printing out word lists, sentences , and a variety of texts. She produces so much, I incorporated them in the scanned #collages. #asemicart
The experiments in #scanned #textures and #texturedtext in turn to blending my #photographs of #flowers. I called these #flowergrams. Some of these became a mix with #junkmail #collage scans. The junk mail #collageart were dubbed #junkmailabstracts. #asemicart #collage #art
