This is Chicagohenge, a twice-yearly event where the sun aligns with the axis created by our grid system of streets at the spring/autumn equinoxes. Instagram tip for tourists: plan to gather around 6:00p to get a good shot.

Based on Chicago’s grid system, the streets create a perfect alignment between the sun and the urban canyons created by the skyscrapers of the Loop. In this photo, the sun is a fiery penny at the base of the horizon, filling the entire frame with orange light. I am behind people who are also photographing the sunset, so shoulders and backs of heads are also visible.

#Research & #technology question - can you help me out, folks?
(Personal project, #health, #wellbeing and #wellness focused. Semi #scientific (but I am not a professional so n=1 with no advice given for others).

I am experiencing a stressful period in my life, and have a lot of work based stress to come. While I have various "coping" mechanisms, I am interested in the effects of various other changes I can make to move from "coping" to "thriving".

Part of this is monitoring my overall health more closely. #BloodPressure, #HeartRate, #skin condition (when I get stressed, dry skin flares up).

I can take #quantitative measurements using various devices already in my possession.

Part of this is #qualitative measurements, sense of satisfaction at the end of the day, pain.levels, sleep, general energy etc.

My question is this...

Is there some #middleware which could scrape data out of my #GoogleFit account (all devices are compatible with GF), and allow me to construct my own qual questionnaire in one platform?

I could use a spreadsheet and manually transfer #data - but that is Something Else To Do, so if I can avoid that, I would like to!

Hope that all makes sense. In essence, a connected health qual / quant personal research app.

Is it too much to hope for?

I completely agree with @jlogancarey about increased discovery here, compared with #birdsite. That's been my experience too - it's easier to find great content, and I have all sorts of different folk answering questions I post - and the discourse is definitely nicer as @jeffjarvis says.

I've only had one minor disagreement (in which I got called a #bigot because I was using the platform's #blocking feature to get rid of certain topics from my stream), but am genuinely super sorry to hear that @shengokai had such a rubbish experience. #SocialMedia is only as good as the people on it, and nowhere is going to be perfect (but it's up to us to support every space becoming open, welcoming & fabulous for everyone).

I'm also really grateful to the article for highlighting what @ntnsndr is up to. If I ever feel like I need a change from the most fabulous & excellent server I'm currently on, social.coop is worth checking out!

Final point, personally, I LOVE Mastodon. It's like the other platforms were back in the day before scale and algorithms got in the way.
Interactions are more frequent, content is more interesting, and I'm inspired by the opportunities to rebuild a #SocMed environment around me & what I want, not what others think I should have.
I genuinely can't imagine going back to #Birdsite and would like to say a huge #ThankYou to everyone who is part of the fediverse. xoxo

Death care is strenuous, stressful, demanding, and low paying. It’s often a thankless job, as grieving families are understandably focused on other things.

Take a moment today to consider what morticians face on a daily basis. Death, unfathomable grief, gruesome bodies, tales of devastation, broken families, long unpredictable hours, and generally the worst things you can imagine. Many of us burn out or resort to unhealthy coping mechanisms. It’s a calling though, and we can’t resist the drive to help those in need.

Has a funeral director helped you navigate through a loss? Send them a note to let them know they made an impact on your life. Though we certainly appreciate tips, lunches, and mementos, we don’t expect them. Sometimes the best reward is hearing that our work mattered.

I have a box full of thank you cards that help remind me of my purpose when days are tough. 🖤
