Here is the thing about generative #AI, I don't think it is what people really want.
When I reach for some "AI" it isn't because I prefer it to a #human but because the human I need isn't readily available. Give me the choice to talk to an AI about a #coding problem or an experienced coder in the field and I'll pick them human every time.
I use Microsoft Windows, Apple macOS and Linux. I use GUI and command line. I have quit Twitter and Facebook, although I have dummy accounts there.
I use Telegram, Signal and IRC instead of WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger.
I protect myself from tracking with VPN, AdGuard, Portmaster, hblock, NextDNS and HTTPS filtering. I use ungoogled and libre software as much as I can.
In today's Internet the awareness is the key. You know you're being used and tracked so do something about it. But I myself am not willing to stop using a product just because it's for-profit, has evil corporate behind it. If it's beneficial to me I'm going to exploit the hell out of it in my benefit. I'm not here to make a change, I'm here to live. For now.
Some people just want to see the world burn. I'm something in between.

I'm a big fan of educators and while some make decent money so many are vastly underappreciated...honestly, $80k seems low!
What's funny is how damn easy it is to see profiles on Mastodon that are clearly made by people indoctrinated into the influencer mindset. I share my work because I care about what I'm doing. Sure, it's great to be able to make a little money from it, but the best part is being able to connect and make new friends the world over.
Don't be an influencer. Be a community member. It'll turn out better for you that way.

I’ve been wrestling with the “are #quoteposts bad?” question, in relation to this. It’s a bit of a side-topic, but I’m thinking about in-system #marketing - a more engaged user-base feels more investment in the system’s continued success.
We don’t want, “Ha! Look how wrong this person is!” But we do want, “Wow! Look how interesting this post is!” A naked re-post has some value, but it comes out of the blue, lacking #context. A comment for your own network, explaining where a post came from, and/or why your folks might be intrigued, is not an appropriate reply-post, which is currently the only way to link something to a discussion. 🤔
To get the strong #NetworkEffects that make people feel more engaged, #Mastodon needs some way to link added context. I hope someone comes up with an “add context” feature that gives the original poster good visibility, and dissuades misuse. Maybe just a special type of reply, that sorts and is labeled differently? 🙂 #Thoughts

some people don’t want to go “above and beyond.”
some people want less responsibility, not more.
some people want to do the job they were hired to do and be done.
there is *nothing* wrong with this.
we need to normalize language like this. you don’t have to work 90 hours a week to be “dedicated.” you don’t have to love your job. you CAN be in it just for the paycheck. that’s literally what a job is: payment for services.
this rhetoric of “what success looks like” is a falsity we have been tricked into believing to maximize corporate profits. success looks different depending on who and when you ask… sometimes success is getting up in the morning, and sometimes it’s getting promoted. it’s all relative, and we need to remember that.
tens of thousands of #layoffs - if only there was a way to turn all of this into a #catalyst for innovative #startups.
the talent is there but we have a disconnect between #funding and #HumanPower.
And maybe some of those startups would set a path for more #humane and #HumanFirst companies - and not just for the tech sector.
