So I slept incredibly badly and each time I woke up I couldn’t stop ruminating (I’m in a depression slump these past few days) so eventually I got online and then…

saw the apparent Russian partisan militia news and wished I could be a fly on the wall to see what’s going on around Putin.

So even though I’m incredibly tired and still depressed it feels like it was an eventful night.

Anyway, today I’m taking it easy. Will just go out for a walk and to buy some lunch and dinner and spend the rest of the day reading/watching TV I think.

It’s raining in #Tokyo and the skies look like northern England.

This was a fascinating read on the background and history of why there are so few cars in Tokyo. Namely, lack of parking, narrower streets, unsubsidized roads, higher fuel taxes, and expensive vehicle inspections.

I also learned that they do not subsidize their public transport system, either.

Why does so much of #Tokyo (metro pop. 40.7 million) feel like a small town?

One important reason: people in #Japan move a lot of cargo and accomplish a lot of urban tasks with very small vehicles, from the Mama-chari ("mommy-bike") to teeny-tiny garbage trucks.

Had a lovely morning and afternoon wandering across #Tokyo and enjoying the very welcome sunshine.

Stopped at the lovely Yona Yona Beerworks for a beverage on the way back to the hotel, followed by a power nap. Now back in the exec lounge for pre-dinner cocktails and planning the evening ahead.

I’m a #queer, #British #bisexual (they/them) #sociologist who has been living in #Japan for 20 years. Until last year I was a tenured Associate Professor at a top #science and #engineering university in central #Tokyo researching #HCI and #sociology of #community. I took (very) early retirement to focus on my #MentalHealth after the workplace environment triggered what I now know is #CPTSD.

I toot on lots of things but expect #Judaism, #feminism, #trans and #nonbinary rights, #mentalIllness (especially #depression, #anxiety and #therapy); also #research on use of #technology and life in Japan.
