Well, that's a new one. I'm on a train to Carlisle which has been stuck at Preston for a while (after a load of people got on here), and was already overcrowded because the train before it was cancelled. They’ve just announced that the train is overcrowded and they will not let the train move until some people leave the train. So now everyone is looking at everyone else, wondering who is going to move.
WHY are we underfunding railways to the point where this is even an option?

I'd forgotten how slow and infrequent radial transport is in Sydney. Richmond to Campbelltown takes over 2 hours. This is Sydney's most significant non cbd north-south transit route.

104 French high-speed trains will be getting a facelift. SNCF Voyageurs and its rolling stock division are launching the ‘Botox Programme’ to optimise the use and lifespan of their existing trains. This will include:

There were protests of "Why an LRT, why not something else?" when the Penang LRT project was announced.
Still, a good public transportation system would help #Penang grow & hopefully ease its ever-present gridlock. I look fwd to taking the LRT from the airport to Komtar ;)
However, please don't ignore #firstmile issues. No point having fancy LRT stations without car parks or any connectivity from them!

Yet another HS2 article which fails to include even one sentence on its main justification: allowing the fast trains to separate off, & not hog the space on the ordinary lines whenever one comes through.
Once fast trains & stopping trains don't have to share the same bit of track, we can run more of _both_.
But in mainstream media, the potential increase in _ordinary_ services is hardly ever mentioned.
It's about rail capacity overall! not only speed!
It was not that long ago, before the bogie and the EU, that we had to exit the narrow-gauge Spanish train at Cerbère, go through immigration and customs in the dead of night in the middle of nowhere, and then board a French train to Paris.

I have to say I was pleasantly surprised that it was so easy to book Spanish train tickets from the UK on TheTrainLine.com. The whole process couldn't have been more smooth. BTW I especially recommend the Iryo train, which I took from Seville to Madrid, but the older Alvia (Renfe) train I took from Madrid to Bilbao was also very nice. #trains

I spent a fun & fascinating morning at CN’s Walker Yard, in Edmonton’s Calder neighbourhood, the busiest rail yard in Canada. At harvest time, they routinely handle 6000-7000 cars a day. Yesterday the #Atlanta #Beltline announced the light rail extension will have grass tracks! Previously they had said this wasn't feasible.

Sign like this (at Schiphol train station, Netherlands - photo from 2019) at the top of escalators to underground railway stations seem to be on the increase - I’m passing through Malmö now on my way to Odense and they’re here too.
Does anyone know why? Is it something to do with the escalators? Or the overhead line equipment?
