Today I discovered that NYC MTA began a pilot program of free buses on Sunday, one route in each borough. So of course I had to ride one, even if it was only a few blocks.

I'd forgotten how slow and infrequent radial transport is in Sydney. Richmond to Campbelltown takes over 2 hours. This is Sydney's most significant non cbd north-south transit route.
It's incredibly frustrating that so many cities in this country just don't have any good transit to speak of. I'm in literally one of the fastest growing metro areas in the country, the Tampa Bay Area, and there's only one rail line, a streetcar that goes from Downtown Tampa to Ybor City (literally only a mile away).
The bus headways are usually an hour, there's no connectivity between counties despite the metro having significant cities in both Hillsborough and Pinellas, and none of that is likely to change soon. There should at least be a train line of some between Downtown Tampa and the Airport down Kennedy, 275 is a nightmare on that stretch.

Ottawa activist groups held a rally September 26, 2023 to protest the state of public transit in Ottawa and offer suggestions for improvements. It featured speeches, songs, chants, and finally a walk through city hall itself. Initially security barred the doors to city hall but after a few tense moments, they reconsidered and opened the doors to the group.

Sunak's Net Zero surrender is bad, but the previous plan wasn't enough. When it comes to cars, it isn't enough to just replace every petrol & diesel with an EV.
That would still give us air pollution (from tyres), congestion and road deaths.
Instead we need more e-bikes, public transport, car clubs and car hire.
Lots of people will still need to own a car - that's fine. But many won't, and they'll save money as a result.

Since its opening in August, the William Commanda bridge, linking Ottawa and Gatineau bike paths, has proved to be enormously popular, with approximately 7,500 people per day crossing on the first weekend of use. Almost 30,000 crossings were recorded in the first week, and over 100,000 crossings in August in total.
