During my #wandering #today, I encountered a wonder I have never seen before. #Moth #caterpillars covered a whole #tree in #silk! It turns out that they use this #eerie looking web for protection & transport. It truly looks like a ghost tree, countless little crits wriggling about. To me, it was a #magical #moment I'll #NeverForget.

A goose swims past a solitary tree in a Central Park lake on a rainy day in Manhattan.
What you cannot “see” in this photograph is the sound of 58th Street traffic, along with all of the other nearby big city stimuli of Manhattan. This is a “landscape” photograph, of course, but the landscape is different than those I typically photograph in the American West. But on this rainy morning, when I escaped my hotel to walk and photograph for an hour or two, it presented a welcome slice of the natural world.

2023 has been an amazing spring for Hawthorn blossom.
One of our Ironwood trees was blooming recently but is mostly bloomed out by now. I love the pink-lavender color of these flowers and so I painted them for a recent Perpetual Journal entry!

For my birthday Kesa made me a little booklet of my random #tree photos. Most of them were taken with my phone while walking our dogs (Tim then Penny) in and around our neighborhood in Silver Spring, Maryland. It was such a thoughtful & personal gift, for the way it has time (our time) wound through it like a thread. And how she noticed I had a penchant for photographing trees in the first place--which is honestly something I barely recognized myself.
