1 ...there are two different kinds of trust—interpersonal trust and social trust—and we regularly confuse them.
2 ...the corporations controlling AI systems will take advantage of our confusion to take advantage of us.
They will not be trustworthy.
3 ...it is the role of government to create trust in society.
And that means regulation. Not regulating AI, but regulating the organizations that control and use AI.
"One, that there are two different kinds of trust—interpersonal trust and social trust—and that we regularly confuse them. Two, that the confusion will increase with artificial intelligence. […] We will think of AIs as friends when they’re really just services. Three, that the corporations controlling AI systems will take advantage of our confusion to take advantage of us. They will not be trustworthy."
“Corporations are not moral; they are precisely as immoral as the law and their reputations let them get away with.
But they are not our friends. Corporations are not capable of having that kind of relationship.
We are about to make the same category error with AI. We’re going to think of them as our friends when they’re not.”

OK, look, this excites me, but it sounds like there is still some ambiguity about GLOBAL SURPLUS REGULATORY MECHANISMS (GSRMs). There must be not only mechanisms for pulling deficit countries out of debt, but ALSO mechanisms for curtailing surplus! Infinite growth is not real or good! Matter can neither be created nor destroyed! GSRMS at IMF are IMPERATIVE! NOW! #GSRM #finance #debt #postcapitalism #restructuring #democracy #trust #collectiveaction #government #law #SOS

I trusted a lot today. I trusted my phone to wake me on time. I trusted Uber to arrange a taxi for me, and the driver to get me to the airport safely. I trusted thousands of other drivers on the road not to ram my car on the way. At the airport, I... https://www.schneier.com/blog/archives/2023/12/ai-and-trust.html

Straight up: I’m a slut, submissive, service slave. I like being reminded of my place as a faggot. Indeed I revel in it. I am Autistic and have ADHD. All that said, there is this nuance between degradation and still being respected.
So I’m having this increasingly excited conversation. With a man I’d really like to be abused by in the very best ways. And then I get “oh so you’re autistic and retarded?”

The notion of "trust" between team members is dangerous and unnecessary. The need for interpersonal trust is superseded by strict adherence to orders and loyalty to your Friend, The Computer.
Do only as you are told, and no one will get hurt.
Stay alert, trust no one, and keep your laser pistol handy.
So I matched with someone this morning. She said "hey." I answer something like "NIce to meet you. You can pick the topic of conversation. You can ask anything."
I get this as a response:
I let about half an hour go by and she unmatched.
I really don't think the was anything I could do to save the situation.
This is someone who does not know anything about BDSM. She probably read something in a book somewhere and thinks that someone who's into BDSM will send an unsolicited duck pic (typo intentional) right away, or is going to order her around.
I'm not the type of guy who *particularly* wants to order people around. Now, this being said we *can* get there, but opening a relationship with demands that I order you around is a plan for failure.
Trust has to be established first, and newsflash for those who need to hear this, trust goes both ways.

"A “captured agency” refers to a regulatory agency or government body that has been unduly influenced or controlled by the very industries or entities it is supposed to regulate. In such a situation, the agency no longer acts in the best interest of the public but instead serves the interests of the industries it is supposed to oversee."

Social media has played a significant role in the growing public distrust of experts. However, this backlash against #expertise is not driven solely by economic distress or conspiracy theories. Technological and economic shifts have created a need for value judgments, challenging the traditional role of experts.
#Miscommunication between people can be easily forgiven if the miscommunication is easily explained or resolved and not a representation of deceit.
A lack of #communication on the other hand, often represents a lack of respect, especially if you do everything in your power to earn the respect you should be given. If you can quantify that lack of communication—the absence of respect—the way forward is through a door labeled "Exit".

Only 57% of Americans say science has a positive effect on society.

🔒 Trust & Security: Navigating the Cyborg Age 🌐
Recently, Matthew shared with us, a fascinating article by Mark Burgess: "Balancing priorities in the cyborg age," it sheds light on the profound interplay between trust and security in today's tech-driven world.
Here are a few of our key takeaways from this (https://www.linkedin.com/feed/update/urn:li:activity:7127393333441613824) great article.

"The broader challenge here — and perhaps, the inescapable one — is the essential humanness of online trust and safety efforts. It isn’t machine learning models and faceless algorithms behind key content moderation decisions: it’s people. And people can be pressured, intimidated, threatened and extorted. Standing up to injustice, authoritarianism and online harms requires employees who are willing to do that work."

You know what's wonderful about having a wobbly cat love and trust you? She knows when she wobbles up close to me I will gently hold her hips so she's stable. I won't let her fall.
That lets her tilt her head to lean her cheek against me without falling over. She tilts and leans wholeheartedly, with total trust, and I feel the gift of that trust every time. It's mutual bliss :-)
