Garden Tulip
A Didier's red tulip in our flower garden up in the Oregon Cascade mountains. We have tried to grow a lot of other wild flowers in our garden but the chipmunks would eat the small chutes faster than they could grow but tulips and other bulb flowers are a deterrent for them. It's finally nice to see growth in the garden.

This is an odd perspective for a photograph of a flower. The tulips were growing on the bank of a pond, so you’re looking down at them against the reflection of the sky in the background. Not my best photo, but kind of fun, nonetheless.

End of Life
Tulips are a beautiful flower but unfortunately they do not last but 3-7 days at best before the flower petals begin to fall off. This tulip is half way through losing its petals but still can show the beauty in nature. One thing that's awesome about tulips is the bulbs will be ready to grow again next year and naturalize bringing even more flowers.

Bright Tulip
An old broke down jacuzzi that has been converted into a flower garden that is full of tulips and daffodils. Caught the morning sun putting a bright reflection off the edge of the jacuzzi. Soon the other bulbs should start growing and blooming and looking forward to getting more colorful shots.

Petal Peeking
Out looking for insects on the tulip garden and found this little one peeking over a petal on one of the tulips. This Tripartite sweat bee is super small and are called a sweat bee because they are attracted to sweat. We just had rain in our area so there were still drops on the flowers.

An enormous orange tulip with some yellow markings fills most of the frame, with the image taken top down such that the yellow eye of the flower with yellow-green stamen and four black tipped pistils is in the centre, and petals fan out from there. The petals are not a solid colour but varying shades of bright orange, some veins and edges in yellow. They are ruffled along the edges like a big, layered, ruffled skirt. The layer of petals closest to the camera, closest to the centre of the bloom, appear to be 9 or 10, and then the edges of the petals behind cascade down to the top right, the tops lit by sunlight. One little petal closest to the centre reaches up, curled. From beneath the bloom, two pale green leaves, also with a ruffled edge, stretch to the lower edge of the frame. The rest of the background is pale, dry brown dirt and some blurred green leaves.

My wife and I turned an old jacuzzi into a flower garden several years ago. We generally plant only wild flowers in it but this past fall before our snow came along we decided to get some bulbs to plant and now that our snow is finally gone our flowers are finally growing and some have just started to bloom. This particular flower is the Didier's Tulip which is also known as a garden tulip.

The image is a closeup of a Black Parrot Tulip, where the bloom takes up most of the frame, a bit if the straight, green stem visible below the bloom, and green leaves and other purple flowers blurred in the background. The bloom is whimsically shaped, with each petal serrated along the edge, making it look feathered. This bloom has six dark purple petals, with the insides a deep and vibrant colour. The outsides of the petal is more muted, still purple, but with blue and grey tones. What adds interest to this particular bloom is the positioning of the petals. The one furthest back and the ones on each side of that image centre petal are open half way and pointed upward. The next two petals curl in towards the centre and each other, hiding the sixth petal. In doing so, the “feathered” edges if those two petals interlace, making it appear as if the y are two hands with interlaced fingers, or like the feathered wings of a bird. The feeling is calm and contemplative.
