I am in the minority here (at least when looking at the comment section), but I actually do like this change. I actually switched away from Medium to #Tumblr months ago due to the previous paywall method.
That said, many writers are upset about the change. I would not be surprised if some of them switched to #Substack (yeah, I know).

What is honestly going on with “#tumblr live” now? I don’t use the app a lot, but every time I open it there is a scrolling bar of veeeery barely passing the rules cam-girl looking thumbnails. They literally look like all the same person, under every possible hashtag category like “music”, “entertainment”, “home and garden” etc.
If you’re gonna promo the porn sellers, just do it honestly and let me filter it out.

@neil @chris What platform was this on‽ Was it #Medium or a random #WordPress blog‽ I regrettably moved one of my blogs off of Medium due to the paywall (as I wanted people to freely read what I posted) & manually “imported” (more like reposted) my blog posts to #Tumblr.
I wish there was a way for premium users to turn off the subscription feature for their blogs. If I am willing to pay for it, visitors should be able to freely read my content.

I still want to love the platform, it’s weird, largely queer, and self-aware.

@marqle @bubblefizzpop @atomicpoet #Minds talked about joining the #Fediverse since 2021 but they just activated #ActivityPub this year (so I understand your surprise).
Despite their reputation, Minds is in a stronger position (financially, user numbers & feature wise) to compete against #Threads & #Tumblr than most platforms, including #Mastodon & #Misskey.
Minds even supports #YouTube imports which is surprising.
@bubblefizzpop @atomicpoet Yes, last I checked #Tumblr will join the #Fediverse, although it will be much later than #Threads (my guess is December of this year for Tumblr, & October for Threads). #PostNews will also join this year too, but I am not sure when.
The biggest surprise this month was #Minds joining the Fediverse, as they were able to fix most of their issues with #ActivityPub.
@atomicpoet I believe #Threads will receive most of the media attention (as well as attention from the elites).
However, I believe once #Tumblr joins the #Fediverse we will begin to see the masses join (as rival services adopt #ActivityPub in order to avoid being “left out”).
Unfortunately spam & trolling will also increase, but that is a given as they always harass folks on every platform (they are the never ending weeds in the garden of humanity).

Reblogged a post to my #Tumblr, only to find the blog completely gone. Still shows in the dashboard, but without any posts. I can't look at any details about it in the UI. Yet somehow I can still reblog posts to it, or at least go through the motions. And there's no message to let me know what might be wrong.
I may have to stop using #Tumblr because it has a #notification that won't go away. Clicking on the blog that the notification is from shows no activity, but the notification remains.
It's possible that deleting my Tumblr blog might clear the notification? But I think I'd rather leave my blog up and just never look at Tumblr again.

In 2020, we developed a special tool, MementoEmbed, for generating/extracting metadata from archived web pages. We presented this tool at the Web Archiving and Digital Libraries Workshop (WADL2020).
We found out that #Twitter, #Facebook, #Tumblr, and others could not reliably create cards for archived web pages. We use MementoEmbed’s cards in #Storytelling with our tool Raintale to create a #Visualization of this #Summarization.

I may as well not even post those. I don't have time to repost every image especially for Mastodon. Somebody please figure this out.

Turns out, Yahoo's purchase of Tumblr in 2013 (wow, that was ten years ago) was even WEIRDER than anyone thought. They wanted it to be "the next PDF"? How does that even make any SENSE?
