An update on the #U2 Sphere ticket saga.
I'm in on Dec 16, the last show listed (as of right now). Did not expect to go; there was scuttlebutt from some of the crew at the Beacon show suggesting there would be a tour in '24, so I was thinking I'd wait for that, but then they announced 8 more shows. I thought, what the hell, I'll put in for tickets for one night only (I could have put in for 5). Didn't expect this to be any different. Except it was.

It's hard to describe the intensity of the fandom among some youngish American #Evangelical Christians who saw in the #U2 of the 1980s a sliver of hope for an alternative to the mainstream #Christian subculture of the day — a way that could be angry, hopeful, poetic, and political without the trappings of American politics.

Welp, I've thrown in the towel on the #U2 tickets. It was never a given it was going to happen, and I was willing to plonk down some dough to make it out there, but it's just not gonna happen. I've missed tours before. It'll be fine. A lot of the paid-in-full fan club members are really mad, as they thought they'd get first crack above everyone...but that was not exactly the case. As far as I can tell, the band has never shafted fans. I do think ticketmaster needs to be legislatively nut-punched

Watching the #U2 show on Disney Plus. It’s quite remarkable. I don’t consider “spirituality” a real thing. But U2’s music is close to what I call “transcendent”. I wonder what other #Exvangelical people feel about this.

@sophie I’m very much in the white male demographic so I ask this with a feeble attempt at acknowledging my biases / ignorance - but I follow hashtags (ie I have no idea where the #u2 fans are on here) in my mastodon feed and then automatically have a variety of people in my feed.
