First dive with the 60mm macro lens! We arrived to cloudy skies and comfortable temperatures at OGB, but the main problem was the mountain of seaweed at the bottom of the ramp - yuck! I found a few grubbies, which were an excellent subject for my 60mm macro lens. We found a big, cooperative shorthorn sculpin and a big striped bass and a Doll Eualid shrimp who was out for a few images.

These tiny sculpin can be tricky to photograph as they quickly "hop" around looking for cover and face different directions. Even when you get one, they're usually nestled in some cover and they are camouflaged to look just like their surroundings. For this one, I decided to go a little artsy and make the background black and white so the sculpin's natural colors pop out.

First dive with the new camera (Olympus EPL-9)! I'm still waiting on some more parts to arrive, so I hopped in the water with just the kit lens, a focus light, and a strobe. I quickly discovered that the minimum focus distance on this configuration was over a foot, which pretty much ruled out any sort of macro on this dive. Still managed a few decent shots and can't wait to get the full macro setup going

The axolotl is a Mexican caudate that lives in water, a type of salamander, which is an amphibian. Frogs, newts, and most salamanders undergo a metamorphosis to transition from life in the water to life on land. The axolotl is unusual in that it doesn't undergo a metamorphosis and develop lungs. Instead, axolotls hatch from eggs into a juvenile form that grows to become its adult form. Axolotls keep their gills and permanently reside in the water.
A mature axolotl (18 to 24 months in the wild) ranges in length from 15 to 45 centimeters (6 to 18 inches). An adult specimen weighs anywhere between 2 and 8 ounces.

Hippocampus pontohi ist ein Zwergseepferdchen und gehört zum sog. „Bargibanti-Artenkomplex“. Wegen ihrer geringen Größe wurden Zwergseepferdchen erst spät entdeckt. Der einheimische Tauchguide Hence Pontoh der Froggy Divers in Bunaken (Indonesien) entdeckte es dort 2003. Als man dann wusste was man suchte, wurde es auch an anderen Orten nachgewiesen. Ihre Größe und Beweglichkeit machen jedes Foto zu einer Herausforderung.
