Apparently these minimal tab bars visionOS uses as its main navigation within apps only reveal their text labels when the user looks at them for a while. Compare this to the tab bar in iOS apps that shows both icons and text labels at all times.

I’m very curious to find out how this will impact the user experience. On macOS controls that only appear when hovered are pretty bad most of the time but maybe having your eyes be the cursor could make this much more effective? 🤔

What is it with Microsoft and adding random unnecessary buttons and visual clutter?

I don't want the News widget on my taskbar, I don't want new buttons popping up in my browser, and I don't want a notification badge showing on the Games app to tell me what new games are available.

By all means, alert me in some unobtrusive way that there's a new feature, but please get my consent before enabling it.

Change Mode UI doesn’t state current status. This adds cognitive load on the user to have to read what the status is and there is no confirmation if the fence or beacon is active or not.

Solution:
When opening Change Mode have current state active. If fence is active, keep button color blue. This allows the user to quickly see what is active and what is not.

One thing that was unfortunately missing from all of the amazing announcements at this year’s WWDC is the introduction of a standalone “Passwords” app.

I think putting this feature front and center instead of burying it in Settings could really help the user experience and improve discoverability.

I made a quick mockup in Sketch to illustrate that this could be achieved with surprisingly little work. Here’s hoping they do this soon! 🤞

Assume the Position—A Labelling Story By @lloydi

“Many aspects of web design have become de facto standards. In other words, it may not be that there was ever a hard-and-fast rule about how something should be laid out/designed, but has come about through years of repetition.
