As someone who drives a #PHEV, I'm frequently amazed that it isn't the standard on large pickup trucks. The low end torque and fuel savings for local driving while having a gas engine for long haul work is perfect for people who want to use a truck to both drive kids to soccer on weekends *and* haul a load on week days.

I don't understand why DC's #VehicleSize #tax isn't the norm. Large #vehicles are freeloaders. Their weight accelerates pavement wear, increasing road maintenance cost. Their length reduces space available for other cars, increasing congestion. Their width increases the risk of sideswipe collisions. Their height increases the risk of fatalities & serious injuries when crashes do happen.
It's ridiculous we don't charge extra for all that.

Pennsylvania Wants 15-Year-Olds to Drive so They Can Get to Work

Two state House representatives are proposing lowering the age that a teenager can receive a driver's permit and license in Pennsylvania.

Reps. Stephen Kinsey (D-Philadelphia) and Eric R. Nelson (R-Greensburg) said in a memorandum that they want to see 15-year-olds hit the state's roadways, ending "arbitrary age discrimination."

The proposed legislation would change the age of eligibility for a junior driver’s license to 15 years old and establish an age of eligibility of 15 years old for a learner’s permit.

"Working teens learn accountability while contributing to their communities," Kinsey and Nelson said. Citing limits because of the commonwealth's current age minimum of 16, they said, "If Pennsylvania teens wish to work and are legally permitted to do so, they should not be denied the right to travel to their place of employment."

The proposed legislation would hold 15-year-olds to the same safety and training standards that already exist for young drivers, the memorandum said.
