FIY Just got a #call from "Florida" - of course not in my #contacts - rang once, hung up, and then called me right back.
The really interesting thing is - It said it was a #verified caller verified by my carrier, and it got past my #block of caller who aren't in my contact list.
I'm sure it was a #scam they didn't leave voice mail, I blocked and reported - but the fact is I shouldn't have got the call in the first place

Well, this is fun. I went to message a person on Twitter whom I've followed for years, bought art from, and messaged back and forth multiple times during that period (mutual conversation). People will tell you it doesn't mean anything but that is not true. It tells you that the owner of the site and the owner of the account on Mastodon are the same. And that is not nothing, especially for big entities whose web site you already trust.
Some sites, like Bandcamp, add the rel=me tag automatically when you create a link.
Furthemore, do _not_ add your Mastodon-handle to your OSM-profile (like <a href='https://your.server/@username' rel='me'>My mastodon</a>)
This will cause the aforementioned bot to also mention you - which slows down everything.
At last, if you linked your mastodon, do not add your OSM-profile in the metatags of your Mastodon. This will add the #verified-checkmark, but we remind you that linking to other platforms is prohibited! For this, you need to purchase #MastodonGreen !
Discovered something while going through the verified and playable data for the recent titles on the Steam Deck.
Valve and their partners are more often than not validating the games BEFORE they even release. And that's not just for games in early access, even some games that are only planned to be released in 3 months are already validated!

Our dev team just pushed some changes to verifiedjournalist.org
On the front:
- It's now easier to add a new listing.
- Updating your verified profile is now easier.
- Lots of bugs were squashed.
- Hooks added to the code to make posts of the claimed and verified profiles boolean searchable. We'll be adding this search next week.
- Cleaned up homepage

- Lots of automation added to make it easier to administer.
How do you feel about #Medium introducing a #verification process as part of their instance and #subscription price?
Yes, they are #centealized company, but they are joining the #fediverse and are in an excellent position to do verification.
Yes, they allow you to verify your #Mastodon account by linking it to your #Medium account with a URL, but they can also verification similar to #Twitter before it just became a pay-to-scam feature.
I actually like the idea. For example, let's say a #Youtube creator uses #Medium to post extra content, transcripts, or longer discussion articles. #Medium can then verify that it is indeed that Youtuber and also verify their #Mastodon account and identity.
Yes, they can verify their identity by linking the #Youtube channel by connecting it with a URL, but an automated #verified checkmark next to their profile name could be fun and useful.

New (as yet unpublished) potential evidence that #SARS-#CoV-2 was found in #raccoon #dogs (canids) in the #Huanan #Market in late-2019. Specifically, viral and raccoon dog #DNA in #swabs presumably taken at the time from a stall known to house those animals.
Caveats:
-lots of DNA mixing together in a market.
-can the #provenance of the data be #verified?

There is no algorithm. #Verified here is not the same as #Verified on #Birdsite You have at least 500 char/post.

Hmmm. I put on rel="me" links on my two linked sites nearly 24 hours ago and they still don't show up in my #MastodonProfile as #verified. Is that typical? Am I #DoingItWrong? #MastodonQuestion
So my verification link is a bit special.
It's a third level Provincial domain, specifically Nova Scotia's.
These stopped being given out in October 2010. You cannot get one any more and if ever it were not renewed, it would be gone forever.
In other words, I'm not just verifying I'm me with my own personal website, I'm verifying my continuing presence online since 2010 with it in a way no newcomer online can duplicate.
