Here's an interesting visualisation of what makes the content of the ROM
To my surprise it has very little code. 80% of the data is made of the rooms configuration, the graphics, the sounds and SCUMM scripts
The rest is code and additional types of resources

Help! #followerpower

What #JavaScript #OpenSource libraries render timelines?

Ideally with handling of...

- non-ISO8601 timestamps (-3000 to 1512)
- large differences in scale (show both "-1 Million to -500k years" and "2023-01 to 2023-06" together)
- incomplete dates (YYYY-MM)
- interactivity

Usage as a Leaflet plugin a bonus, but not a must.

The ones I found are documented in https://github.com/TIBHannover/ojsGeo/issues/74

Related q: how to handle diverse timestamps in the DB...

Recently had a session of #therapy called Rapid Resolution aka Accelerated in the US. Lots of #visualisation to work on the #subconscious, might involve eye-movement like EMDR if I have much more. It cleared a block of hideous deep #anxiety I’ve had for well over a decade. Now my #ADHD is zinging but low-dose supplements seem to help eg “brain boost” and “genius mind” with l- tyrosine, lion’s mane and the like. I’ve been busy tidying a room for two days, now chilling cos tired after all that.

Map Of Russia Scaled by Population In Every 'State'

--

I saw this 'map' of scaled (sic) by population in evet 'state', and as I am ½ way through reading Tim Marshall's book 'Prisoners Of Geography' I was especially drawn to this view, especially remembering how he described the context of Russia's various physiography features (e.g., the Urals) in terms of regional and national politics, history of warfare, population growth, etc

(unfortunately @maps.n.more seems to no longer be on Twitter to do a H/T)

Did a bit of recreational 4-d visualisation this week: updated the website to include layered views of the 600-cell and 120-cell which let you get a sense of their internal structure

https://etc.mikelynch.org/fourjs/

#maths #math #geometry #visualisation

Visualisation of a 600-cell projected into 3D space which looks like a complicated tangle of triangles with icosahedral symmetry. There's a colour scheme showing w-distance as layers from the 'center' going blue / yellow / white / dark orange / orange / cyan. The background is grey. There's a black control panel in the top right corner

Looking for a good #shamanism book but unsure of whether I can trust #goodreads reviews or not. They often throw trash at books I’ve loved so it’s very unreliable to me :neocat_flop_blep:

Any recommendations?

I struggle a lot keeping focus on very theory and/or philosophy heavy texts, so I’m mostly looking at books that teach through myths, legends, #visualisation, and other exercises.

Thank you! 📕🌱

Vortragsfolie, zweispaltig mit (links) "schlechte [wissenschaftliche] Praxis", dazu einige (hier unwichtige) Punkte in roter Schrift, (rechts) "gute Praxis" in grüner Schrift.
Unten die gleiche Folie, aber im Simulationsmodus für Farbenblindheit: aus rot und grün wird dunkel-braun und mittel-braun. Gerade noch unterscheidbar; aber der "Warn-Effekt" ist völlig verloren.

Updated over the weekend: you can now see inscribed polytopes in some of the simpler shapes like the 24-cell and the humble tesseract, and the colours have been touched up a bit.

https://etc.mikelynch.org/fourjs/

#maths #mathstodon #visualisation

Stereographic projection of a tesseract or hypercube into 3D space. It looks like one cube inside a larger one with the adjacent sets of vertices joined. The vertices are different shades of orange and the edges are blue.
The same view of a tesseract, except that now eight of the sixteen vertices are also connected by orange edges, showing that a 16-cell (the 4D analogue of an octahedron) can be inscribed in the tesseract.

I've been experimenting with using word clouds for illustrating collections of related synsets, e.g. the holonym substance relation for a specific synset (pictured: flour in Danish).

It works quite well, but I did end up simulating the word sizes based entirely on the sort order of the weights, rather than deriving them more directly. I did this to get a fairly predictable appearance for clouds of any size.

@politicalgadgets I understand. (Hello, my name is Sam and I am a little bit Joyce) We are *all* a little bit Joyce.
BUT, could you floor this somehow? I suspect that "Adam Bandt is 18.97% Joyce" represents some kind of low-tide mark. Maybe just subtract 15% from them all before scaling? That is, even the Alcohol Sponge can be counted on to vote sensibly 15% of the time, so we should remove that random chance part from the calculation.

With recent news about the hottest day ever recorded on our planet, I decided to update my #WarmingStripes #ClimateStripes plot for #Seattle with data since I first made it two years ago. This uses the #ulmo #python library, reading data from #NASA #DayMet. Because it was too warm today to do proper research and writing, I tinkered around a bit and assembled a Dockerfile for a containerised version of Voyant Server (a useful tool for text analysis and visualisation).
