Text from article:
Trump has pleaded not guilty to all charges in what prosecutors say was a broad conspiracy to subvert the 2020 election by spewing a gusher of lies about purported election fraud and trying to get state local and federal officials to change the legitimate results to remain in power.

A four-count federal indictment in Washington, D.C., alleges he plotted to defraud the federal election process, obstruct Congress’s certification of the vote in the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol attack, and deprive Americans of their civil right to have their votes counted. It is one of four criminal cases charged this year against the former president.

The others include a federal indictment in Florida over Trump’s alleged retention and mishandling of classified documents and obstruction after leaving the White House; a state trial in Georgia that involves similar allegations of trying to obstruct the state’s election results; and a New York state business fraud prosecution accusing Trump of covering up hush money payments made during his 2016 election campaign.

PLEADS FOR NEGROES IN SUPREME COURT

Louis Marshall Argues in the Capital City Appeal That They Cannot Be Segregated

TEST FOR 10 OTHER CITIES

Attempt to Stop a Negro From Buying Home on a Fashionable Street Is Opposed

Washington, Jan. 8 (AP). - The question of race segregation in cities was argued before the Supreme Court today in a case involving the enforceability of contracts made among property owners to restrict the sale and use of their property.
The case originated here. The property, which the owner is alleged to have sought to sell to a negro woman, is on S Street in what a few years ago was an exclusive white residential section. The homes of Herbert Hoover and Mrs. Woodrow Wilson are on the same street only a half dozen blocks away.
Owners of the property in the block in dispute-between Seventeenth and Eighteenth Streets-made a formal contract in 1921 that for a period of twenty-one years none would sell to a negro. About a year later, however, one of the parties to the contract, Mrs. Irene Hand Corrigan, agreed to sell her house to Mrs. Helen Curtis, and the other property owners in the block got an injunction on the ground that Mrs. Curtis is of negro blood. The lower trial court held the contract valid and enforceable, sweeping aside contentions that constitutional guarantees of race equality had been violated.
The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People joined with others in appealing, and Morefield Story of Massachusetts and Louis...

Trump is not immune from election-subversion prosecution, judge rules

“A former President’s exposure to federal criminal liability is essential to fulfilling our constitutional promise of equal justice under the law,” Chutkan ruled.

By KYLE CHENEY

Donald Trump is not immune from prosecution for his attempt to subvert the 2020 election, U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan ruled Friday, concluding that his term as president does not serve as a shield against charges that he sought to defraud and disenfranchise millions of Americans.

“Defendant’s four-year service as Commander in Chief did not bestow on him the divine right of kings to evade the criminal accountability that governs his fellow citizens,” Chutkan ruled in a 48-page opinion, sweeping aside Trump’s most intricate attempt to derail the case against him.

The back of a red brick mansion under a bright blue, cloudless, sky. The building is three stories high and was built in the late 1890's but had a facelift styled after Flemish architecture in the early 1900's. Against the red brick facade, several freshly painted white windows stand out visually. The prominent color of this picture is the red brick, the blue sky, and the white windows.

A public garden full of tulips arranged in beds that form segmented concentric circles in a broad lawn, with grass between beds. Each bed is a single color and many colors are represented, including many solid colors and some variegated varieties such as red/yellow, red/orange, and pink/white. Kneeling between beds in the foreground, a man in a light blue shirt looks down into the viewfinder of a huge 1980s-era video camera. A small tripod sits next to him with another camera on it. In the middle distance stands a man holding an SLR camera up to his eye. Beyond, trees and a mostly-empty road.

These events pressured the government into addressing systemic racism and inequality, eventually leading to the passage of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Voting Rights Act of 1965, both of which were significant steps toward dismantling racial segregation and discrimination.

The March on Washington built upon the momentum generated by the Brown decision.

It represented a collective push for comprehensive civil rights legislation and societal change, beyond just the educational sphere.

Indeed, the Supreme court’s ruling provided a legal basis for challenging segregation in ALL aspects of life, including schools and public spaces, and set a precedent for future civil rights cases—-to translate the ideals of desegregation and equality into legislative and societal change.

Both those who led the effort to overthrow school segregation and those who organized the March on Washington had shared goals of dismantling segregation and advancing civil rights. Brown v. The March on Washington took place nearly a decade after the Brown decision. It brought together civil rights organizations and activists to advocate for an end to racism, discrimination in employment, and other inequalities faced by Black Americans. And no more foundational to this was the desegregation of schools to allow for equal opportunity access to quality education for all children.

The Brown decision marked a significant turning point by declaring that segregation in education inherently perpetuated feelings of inferiority among African American children and was therefore inherently unequal.

Brown v. Board of Ed was a landmark legal case in which the Supreme Court ruled that racial segregation in public schools was unconstitutional. The decision overturned the “separate but equal” doctrine established in the 1896 case Plessy v. Ferguson, which had allowed racial segregation as long as the facilities were deemed equal.

Finally, there’s the 1954 landmark ruling of the U.S. Supreme Court that declared state-sponsored segregation in public schools unconstitutional. This decision —-no colloquially as Brown v. Board of Ed—-marked a direct challenge to the established system of segregation and became a catalyst for the modern civil rights movement.

The Harlem Renaissance uplifted Black American voices and helped to create a more just and equitable society.
